Since this promo is good until December, would be worthwhile to wait a bit and see if there'll be any HBO sales to stack this with, especially around Black Friday.

Here are the differences:
The Ad plan: commercials, no same-day releases, HD quality vs. 4k, and you're unable to download movies for offline viewing.

My Amex offers expiration is 12/14/21.

I and many of the folks I know have recently or are about to cancel Netflix after years of continuous subscription. More people are realizing it's no longer the value it once was.

good idea- maybe no one notices and I save some money
There's so many services you really have to do this with some of them. Showtime I only subscribed to for a month or two a year, I can see HBO Max being like this, though the same day release that is only available for 30 days may change that for some.

I'm in the exact same boat (except I subscribed two days later and go through July 23), I'm going to try and hold out for Black Friday and hope there's a good offer for the no-ad version (but not too good, they could make it $99.98).
I like that idea although I will be without HBO max for about 5 months. Since my amex offer expires in mid December I may be able to stack a possible BF offer. I guess I'd better hurry up and finish Warrior and any other shows on my radar. Thanks!

Yeah I was going to say, I have att fiber internet and get HBO Max for free
Isn't this just a short term promo though? I also have AT&T 1G Fiber, but haven't seen anything that says we get HBOMax free long-term.

Thanks! I've been on the HBO bandwagon since they became HBOMax and added the release of cinematic movies. I had the initial 12.99 for 1 year deal and that just finished about 2 or 3 months ago so this is perfect timing. Streaming is awesome for me. I've ditched cable, pay 65 for unlimited internet and then pay for all the streaming services I want with the money I WOULD have spent on a cable plan with 700 channels I don't want. I just wish they all had a yearlyad-free plan with a bit of savings tacked on.

I looked up the email I received from Att and it says it's included with the service. I pay 50$ a month for fiber btw, maybe I bought the plan at the right time?
Oh and no ads btw

Greyhound is a tough one. Most of the movie took place in bad weather. I think it was filmed to reflect that time. Dickinson, Mythic Quest are very good. I think the Apple Originals are made to be watched in 4 K. Those not made by Apple don't have the same quality. Lisey's story is another odd one.

Quote from Beckles :
I haven't used Apple 4K much, but when I watched Greyhound when it first came out the streaming was awful at 4K, I thought something was wrong, switched devices from Roku to Shield, tried different tv's, checked my Gigabit fiber connection, still sucked with freezing throughout that I never have experienced with Netflix/Disney+/Amazon Prime. Had similar problems sometimes watching Ted Lasso. The Morning Show was a huge disappointment. Greyhound was a huge disappointment (Sony did themselves a favor pawning that off on Apple, it was slated to be a theatrical release before the pandemic). That On The Rocks might be worth watching and maybe Trying? Will be interesting to see if they actually start charging people in a month for it ... they have conveniently slated what I think is their most successful show (Ted Lasso) to start Season 2 next month ...

After skimming thru here, I didn't see this mentioned: if you use your Blue Cash Preferred for this, you'll get an additional 6% cash back as it is a streaming service, which on the ad-free plan is another $9 off. So a year of ad free HBO Max for like $116 is pretty solid. I can confirm you'll get the 6% (worked for me - the $25 credit + cashback were posted within a couple days of purchasing).

150$ / yr normal price

125$/ yr after discount.

125$/ 12 month = 10.4166666 a month

FALSE

$149.99 / yr normal price
$124.99 / yr after discount
$124.99 / 12 month = $10.4158 a month, so much less than your calculations show. Don't spend those extra hundreths of a cent each month in one place!

Thank you for mentioning this and I was not aware Amex BCP offers 6% streaming/3% transit.

I've been debating closing my BCP but now will reconsider because of Amex offers which are pretty good for this card, 6% groceries/streaming, 3% on transit, tough choice.

You can cancel but HBO doesn't issue refunds. You will still have access for the full year but they won't renew your HBO subscription automatically.

Waiting for a stack deal also, however last time they had this I never found one. Like other users said, join for a month or 2 each year, catch up on content, and then quit, probably the best strategy.

I personally see about 8-9 movies premiering that I would be interested in before the WB theater releases are cut off at the end of 2021. My guess is I should value this at about $80 to me (since I could always wait, plus I kind of like the movie theater itself). Is the rest of HBO series + Max series that have come out in the past 1.5 years or so since I last subscribed worth it for the other $45 it would take to get to $125? Any comments on new series appreciated. Anything must watch?

Note assume I have already seen all the HBO stuff before that era that I wanted.
