Since this promo is good until December, would be worthwhile to wait a bit and see if there'll be any HBO sales to stack this with, especially around Black Friday.

Here are the differences:
The Ad plan: commercials, no same-day releases, HD quality vs. 4k, and you're unable to download movies for offline viewing.

My Amex offers expiration is 12/14/21.

I and many of the folks I know have recently or are about to cancel Netflix after years of continuous subscription. More people are realizing it's no longer the value it once was.

Expected this is gonna happen! Cord cutting was a bogus , eventually you will end up with 2-3 streaming devices , 5-6 subscriptions ! Still one short to watch your favorite game, movie, live show or an episode ..
ya if you're stupid. you could just grab the deals, cancel any subscription whenever you're done with said deal, and have like 1 or 2 subscriptions at any time. but if you miss being shovel fed awful shows on 50+ stations with commercials and no ability to decide when (lol don't get me started on dvr limitations/pricing) then OK old folks, go for it. you're keeping the streaming options cheap and competitive.

For those of you who are on the previous $69.99 for 6 mo plan, what are you doing?

Here's my current subscription:
My 6-mo plan actually expires tomorrow. There is a bit of natural lull in HBO shows that I follow right now, so probably going to wait until August so I can see Suicide Squad at home. There are about 4-5 Warner movie premiers this year I would like to see. Used to go to the movie theaters a lot before the pandemic. With two people @ $15/ticket + $50-70 in food and drinks (the theater serves food and drinks), you end up spending $80-100 per movie. So just 2 movie premiers alone would have more than paid for the $125 annual subscription.

I personally see about 8-9 movies premiering that I would be interested in before the WB theater releases are cut off at the end of 2021. My guess is I should value this at about $80 to me (since I could always wait, plus I kind of like the movie theater itself). Is the rest of HBO series + Max series that have come out in the past 1.5 years or so since I last subscribed worth it for the other $45 it would take to get to $125? Any comments on new series appreciated. Anything must watch?

Note assume I have already seen all the HBO stuff before that era that I wanted.
I've greatly enjoyed Doom Patrol and The Nevers.

Couldn't you just eat before or after the movie? I was a rabid movie goer until the pandemic, but hardly ever bought food from the theater. Grossly overpriced. If I didn't have enough AMC A-List credits to earn discounts on food, I would not buy. Nachos was like $8 or something and even that is excessive.

We could, yes. But it's nice to have a nice lunch/dinner and drinks while watching a movie. Our movie theater serves real restaurant quality food in addition to the standard movie theater snacks.

I like how strategic your planning is especially the timing and cost justification. I have the Amex offer saved on my BCP card, I'm holding out for a possible BF/CM offer to do a triple stack (Amex streaming 6%/Amex offer/BF).

I love a good deal as much as the next SDer, but I've learned over my many years on SD that sometimes one should just take the available deal and enjoy, instead of FOMO on the "best deal" Smilie

Going to let my sub lapse and wait to see if HBO replicates the $12/mo deal they had last year around late Sept.' 20 -

$144 (12 month ad-free) - $25 Amex Credit = $119/yr which comes out to $10/mo ($9.92 to be exact). Fingers crossed!

Currently if you sign up for a year of HBO Max it's $149.99, so you're saving about 6 bucks there. If you have any same day premiere that you want to watch before end of September might as well get it now, since you'll miss 2-3 of them if you wait.

Did this offer disappear from anyone else's cards? I was going to utilize before December, but never claimed it, and now it's not showing up on any of my cards.

I think it disappeared from my account as well. But I never intended to use it.
If you have any doubt that you may want it, you have to click on it to reserve it.

As with most Amex offers, enrollment is limited. Think it's in the offer post but if it's not it should be. Always add offers as soon as you see them, good ones fill up the enrollment quickly.

I believe so, too... Actually to me none of the mainstream streaming services are worth the price personally. Of course this is always subjective. I keep Amazon Prime definitely not due to Prime Video but mainly for quick shipping and Prime-member only discounts.

Right now the only streaming I'm paying for is Crunchyroll and it's only <$7 after AMEX Offers..
Crunchy roll has a bad interface and bad quality. HBO Max is also lower in quality than Netflix in bit rate. Physical media offers the best experience and highest bit rate to this day. The best experience digitally is itunes and movies anywhere providing the best quality aside from physical. Netflix offers better quality than HBO max ,but it's catalogue is shrinking. I like using Amazon because it offers better quality than most streaming services and via channels you can leverage that Amazon quality for other streaming services. For example Paramount + has many drm issues with its android TV app last I checked. As a result Star Trek Discovery was unwatchable. I switched to Amazon Channel's paramount + channel and the quality is better and does not have a drm purple hue.
