You can get a 3 piece Kyocera Ceramic Knive set for less and skip the sharpener, scissors and tacky looking wood block

Judging by the pics it would probably fit on my counter under my cabinets but would run into issues pulling the knives out of the block. Searching on Google shows the chefs knife and bread knife are 8".
Even with an angled knife block I can just barely slide my 8" knife out of the block.

The only complaint I have for this set is that the upright angle is a bit irritative to the wrist to pull knifes from. If buying this as a gift, I would not buy it for someone with wrist pain.

When I worked on a fancy sandwich line I used a chef's knife, a paring knife and a bread knife. Outside of that, a chef's and a paring will do 95 percent of what you need.
