Anyway, for you, I will recommend to get a dual band 5 GHz router and they're pretty cheap, you can grab one within $20 bucks if you look for deals.
I was just wondering if hooking one of mine inline would help to make 5 GHz channel available on my applicable wifi devices or if that is not something feasible. Like just hooking mine into one of the unused ports of theirs and set up a separate network ssid/pw for when I want to use the 5 GHz band on devices that can benefit.
Also maybe to help the range as well for the 2.4 GHz band that I know the router I have put away can do better than the cable company's box.

Uh, no it wasn't(at the time I posted this). But of course come in a day later and your gonna be a dollar short Plus, why would I have posted it, if you couldn't get it.
Sadly, our cable provider (Cincinnati Bell) does not have a newer or better router/cable box combo. We no longer have an option to provide our own sep router for their internet.
With so many channels beginning to stream their own shows with subscription service, leaving cable doesn't do much good. Still have to pay for internet from someone and more and more subscriptions as time goes by which makes cost about the same or more as getting both services bundled. We already use Netflix and have Prime, and the latest $2.19 per month Hulu deal in effect. /rant
