I own 6 pairs purchased in the last month. None have holes. I am 5' 4" and these hit about 3 -4 inches above my knee. Not too short by any stretch. I found the 100% cotton one to run slightly bigger than those with a blend in the fabric. They wash up fine with minimal shrinking in the the 100% cotton ones.

I got a few last time. These are a bit too frumpy to wear out in public in my opinion but are comfortable for around the house for cleaning and painting etc. They are longer style shorts for women.
