No trick, based on the price, applied the given code (as per this deal), then you hit it with teacher/military discount. Then my US bank cash+ credit card which give you back 5% at electronics store.
So after Lenovo's discount it was down to about $599? then another 5% on top of that ~$570
BTW, I just realized that if you go through perksatwork, you can get it for $579, and if you use the correct credit card, can you get it down to as low as $550.
I think I will finally jump on this when it become available again.
That's awesome! thanks! I also signed up for perksatwork.
FYI. This laptop continues to go from available to sold out. I have saw it became available twice (but was too slow to check out the first time). Check again about 2 hours later and it is available again. Was finally able to grab one via perkatwork for $620 (was $579 before tax). Paying it with my US bank CC should drop it down to $589 in the end.
I've been happy with it so far. I'm mostly using it for coding. The screen has been sufficient for me, but I'm not doing anything that requires perfect color representation. Nice that it's anti-glare.
Minor gripes:
- The fingerprint reader is bad - a lot of times it takes 4-5 taps to register correctly. Takes longer than typing a PIN. Sometimes I get lucky and it correctly registers with my push to power it on.
- SD card slot only pulls half the card in - half remains outside the slot. If you were thinking about putting an SD card in the slot and leaving it there permanently for auxiliary storage, you won't want to do that if you're moving this laptop around.
- Keyboard backlight is either on or off - there is no timeout function like my old Inspiron had, or my daughter's Flex has for that matter (backlight comes on with activity, then times out after a period of inactivity)
- If you want to charge and run a monitor from the USB-C port at the same time, you'll have to buy a USB-C hub. I'm using one I found on Amazon for $20 and it works fine.

Thanks man! I was hoping someone would do a quick review for us.
I was a bit concerned about the screen but at 14inch I think 1080p is good enough. I was thinking to wait for the ideapad 5 pro, but that will cost twice as much as this one and I really just one this one for simply coding and running some of my electronics project that requires windows.

No problem. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll try to answer. Despite all the gripes I posted, they are pretty minor and overall I'm happy with it. At this price, it seems like a great deal.

Thanks. I should have it next week. One thing I'm curious is that I always like to wipe the machine and have a clean install (it's been a very long time since I have gotten a new laptop). Can I install windows on it and then install whatever Lenovo software that I think I need?

Yes, I did exactly that. I started with a clean Windows install with the intention of not installing any Lenovo software after the fact. However, I ended up installing two things that came with the Lenovo build:
- AMD Radeon Software - needed to install this to turn off the Vari-Bright function that was changing the screen brightness when plugging/unplugging power and driving me crazy.
- Lenovo Vantage - needed to install this to toggle Battery Conservation Mode on and off since I mainly use while plugged in and wanted to use this feature.
Those two things are fairly unobtrusive and I haven't noticed any side effects of them being installed.

I didnt realize about the Vari-Bright function until you mentioned now. Mine is enabled and it doesnt change the screen brightness when i plug/unplug power

That's odd. To clarify, the brightness percentage reported in Windows does not change, but the brightness will visually change. Maybe yours behaves differently for some reason.

@aajeev - I just remembered one thing - I did not have to install anything extra for the AMD Radeon Software - it was included in the clean install or a subsequent update. So the only thing I had to install after the fact was Lenovo Vantage, but of course Windows will run just fine without that.

Sounds like the 13S is the premium sleeper.

They said it's on the way, but UPS says other wise. Still very much looking forward to it though.
