I have a closet where I thought this would work well, but reviews indicate that it keeps the light on for 30 mins rather than shutting off once the door is closed.

Buy some LED closet lights with motion sensor. They work great for closets. I use them for my walkin closet.

Recommendations? I've bought some from sams, Walmart. Amazon and they kill batteries in hours at best

I got this one. It is rechargeable.
It says battery will run out if you keep it on continuously for 6-8 hrs. I didnot test that yet.

I use a smart light switch + Ring door sensors to do this with an Amazon Alexa routine.
