I believe the poster was referring to Department of Defense and Coast Guard civilian employees. They became eligible to shop in store on May 1st. It is my understanding online will happen later this year for these employees.

AAFES is not open for the general public.

In the registration page you do need to provide your most recent branch of service (army, navy etc.)

I am an Army civilian. if you have a .mil address, you can sign up for AAFES now. You can select your branch, but not put in your rank and be accepted. I'm sorry for any confusion.

Whether this TV price is inflated or not may be up for debate, but at least here in the US, inflation is indeed a present reality. What that does to your political views is personal, but I wouldn't characterize "center-right" as "insane politics". Believe it or not, conservative monetary policy has little to do with political party.

At any rate, for the people who question why this TV is so expensive, you have either seen an OLED TV, or you haven't. Most who have will recognize the value, even if they don't think it's worth the expense. I have 2000+ hours on my OLED I got about 8 months ago (mostly as a monitor for work), so clearly it's worth it to me. 🙂

Sure, there's inflation. But it's like 4%. It's clearly not what that poster was talking about. If you want to get into politics - spending has been crazy across both political parties in the US. The poster was clearly making a political point for no good reason whatsoever.

Yeah, the core-price index jumped 3.8% in May, more than we've seen since June of 1992...that should concern everyone, and it's going to have a big impact. Totally agree on the rampant spending by both parties, and that's at least part of what we are seeing in the inflation rate, combined with increased demand and supply chain problems. Going to make Slickdeals more important I guess!
