That is a question loaded with variables. Anyways I will give my data points as a reference. For me here, 5G is a couple miles away on TMO and not that great. However, on my newer devices with the Standalone 5G Sim Card (VS say another same phone that i just popped in old SIM in instead). . .the phones with SA sims get 100-150mbps, where as the non SA sim phones gets 60-100 normally, all other things equal.

Another quirk is the 5G home internet Gateway I recently got. It seems to be non SA 5G, further evidenced by the primary signal always being set at 4G no matter how you twerk the online settings (other than shutting of 4G altogether, which shuts down communication in the end). And keep in mind I never get better than 'Good" signal on the app (There are higher VG and Excellent ratings). . .but when I am at "Good" it pulls from B2 4G or B66 4G. . .and Gives me 50-100Mbps hardwired. . .and when I twist the gateway slightly to where it gives me "Weak" signal. . .it seems to pull off the N71 5G tower and my speeds jump up to 100-200mbps hardwired. For reference, my 4G towers are just under a mile away due east, and the n71 5G tower is roughly 2 miles away and to the NE, so it's not that hard to try and exclude one or the other. . .

If you have a card with cell protection and its associated to your tmo account you might also have luck. I happen to have the Wells Fargo Propel card which has cell phone protection. I plan on getting my device fixed (only $25 deductible) and then submitting the tradein.

I have a really stupid question maybe, I really don't know how these contracts work.

I qualify for this offer but I have a good phone already (unlocked). I have a spare pixel 3 that I'd like to trade in but I don't want to use the s21 here, I want to gift it to my brother and he has a different provider. Would the phone I buy be unlocked ? Or would they provide me the unlock code for this phone ? I've had TMobile for about 2 years now.

If you bought a phone from T-mobile and it's fully paid off then you can use the unlock app that should be pre-installed on your phone to unlock it. If you don't have the app then just call them and they will send you an unlock code. It must be paid off already though.

You buy the phone, activate it on the line (make one phone call), then let it sit in the box for 40 days. Then you pay it off (full value) and it will get unlocked or you request it and then you have an unlocked phone. You will receive the monthly credits spread over 2 years so you will recoup the $800 but you have to prepaid it to unlock. If he was on T-Mobile you could just give him the phone to use it while T-Mo is paying it off itself.

I will do the same with my parents (abroad). I "prepaid" the iPhone 12 with the mothers day promo but will need to pay it off before I visit them to unlock but will recover that over the next 2 years.

I pay $25 per month with Visible (unlimited). That's it. No other fees.

It would be $86 per month with the phone and Magenta Max plan.

This would only make sense if you are a power user on your device, were already going to buy the S21, and T-Mobile had good service in your area.
