I'm using it with the 4.0 and the 6.0 and it's great. It's lightweight which is the most important thing and much much quieter than anything else that I've used. Heck, it's quieter than the typical handheld home cordless vacuums. So it's great for little cleanups, e.g. cutting drywall for outlet and clean up quickly, drill concrete patio and cleanup quickly, cut baseboard in the house and cleanup quickly, you see where I'm going with this. Having said that, I managed to do a quick sweep of 500sqft floor + stairs and still had plenty of 4.0 battery left. If someone is looking to substitute their corded dry/wet vac, they're fooling themselves, either in 12V or 18/20V platforms. But the convenience won't be beat in any way.

Same size hose. 51cfm for bosch. 50cfm for milwaukee.

4.0ah at 18v is same run time (technically energy) as 6.0ah at 12v.

So really does come down to other things like form factor or if you want to invest in a particular battery platform.

The 12V Milwaukee has more cfm than the 20V Dewalt.

50cfm vs. 33cfm

Dewalt doesn't list suction but same size hose.

Owned this for 2yrs. Not much suction power, and probably the worst milwaukee tool in my 30+ repertoire. Even the Stanley $15 shop vac is much better than this

The Dewalt was designed for portability and endurance. Hence it also have a power chord option. Other portable vacuum will only run at 10 mins mark while the Dewalt can run for 45 mins with 5ah. Put a 12ah and you should be good for couple of hours.

This is what you bring when you have a portable tool and you want a long lasting portable vacuum that will last for more than an hour on battery. Say you have a portable router/or portable battery operated miter saw that you bring where no power is, This Dewalt vacuum will continually be on sucking every fine dust for couple of hours.

No other portable vacuum can match its battery life but of course, the downside is also lower suction power. They do have their purposes but I wish there's 2 speed... one for endurance and one for suction power... You can't have both at the same time for portable vacuum.
But that's the thing, this M12 Fuel Portable Vac DOES have a Hi/Lo/Off rocker switch. I haven't checked to see how much additional operation time you're supposed to be able to get on Lo power though

My Dyson v6 only seems to be holding a charge half the time, I wonder if this would cover it's tasks suitably?! Anyone have a similar comparison?

Seems like a good option to have in your garage. I wish there was a deal on the bare tool as I already have a bunch of M12 batteries.

The problem with the Milwaukee m12 1.6G vacuum is not a master of anything. Even at low speed, the battery life is still mediocre. When you put it on high, it tends to over draw the battery causing it to shut down. You'd be lucky if you can use a 2Ah battery and use it straight for 2 minutes on high without overheating. It usually overheats it before it drains it at 3 minute mark. Check out the reviews and you will see that other than the mediocre runtime, you will also see intermittent shutdown due to battery overheating. Overheating your battery regularly it going to shorten the battery life.

Those issues have been fixed in this batch of vacuums.

I guess in a pinch it could, but these cordless shopvacs are not designed to clean houses over a wide area of rooms like a cordless Dyson that uses a wand with a carpet brush or fluffy roller head and other suitable attachments.

On the flipside, the v6 is obviously designed for cleaning homes and not not really made for cleaning work areas that may encounter debris like sawdust, drywall dust, screws, nails, spills, and other stuff that a Shopvac is designed to handle.

If you think these little shop vacs are design to suck nails and screws, I predict short tool life

That's good to hear. I was just going to bail on this model after reading the frequent comments that the power dropped quickly. Can you point us to where we can read up on the fix ? If it'll run 15 min on high I'm in. I was just about to get the M18 Packout brushless instead.

@PurpleNarwhal9512 I did find https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eiUU-Ay3-I which seemed to confirm the M12 functions well assuming you use a battery larger than 2AH.

I'm finding that to be the rule with most battery tools that aren't lights. Bigger batteries mean better performance.

This isn't the M12 with a 2ah battery.

It's the M12 Fuel with a 6ah battery.

Even with 6ah, the runtime is mediocre. You are lucky to get 10-12 mins.
