Note: This deal is similar to the now expired Frontpage Deal, at $900, with exact configuration but this one has the HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen included in the package which was not included in that previous deal. The Pen costs around $60-$70 and if you are planning to use this in Tablet mode or doing some drawing or editing or taking notes, it will be extremely useful.
Thanks, OP! I just ordered one.

I picked one up a few weeks ago from Costco (it came with 250 nits screens and 12 GB memory), and while I love everything about the laptop, I wished for a brighter screen and more memory. Your post is an answer to my prayer. And getting a pen is an added bonus.

True. That's why I did not buy from HP. Restocking fee from HP is outrageous.
Unbelievable! There is no way to cancel the order, I ordered in the early morning on Sunday around 1or 2am, then no way to cancel, now they just delay, the more delay, the more they could charge me the restocking fee. It was sunday, so, be aware, once you click place the order, you are doomed to have this laptop, and there is no way to reject the package, there is no way to return unless I am willing to pay the restocking fee! My husband told me, long time ago, he had horrible experience with Hp, but after so many years, HP is still like that. Online chat? phone call? email? impossible, they never forget to remind you the restocking fee you will have to pay, and they often just disconnected your phone call when I was following the menu selection!

HP will never ever cancel any orders, wow, I could talk over 3 days about such an experience, now I am searching online, other people also cannot cancel any orders, cannot believe a big company like HP acts like scammer. I even got the confirmation for the cancellation by emails, by online chat, but guess what, those agents lied, they never actually made any cancellation request. Wow, speechless, I have been wasting 2 days from the moment I click place the order, then there is no way to cancel, and each time, all the agents warn me the restocking fee.

Then look for the Swift 3 model I have pointed out. I would suggest you to wait a bit for the Lenovo Legion 5 (Non-Pro) model prices to be come down a bit. Currently due to supply shortage, they are shipping way over their announced price. However, they are keep appearing and going out of stock in some third party stores like BestBuy.
What is the budget for the Laptop by the way?

And for encoding, use tools like Staxrip, instead of popular options like Handbrake or AVIDEMUX. While they are easy to use and provide one-click solutions, they normally don't offer many of the settings in the GUI and you need to apply them in command line.
In Staxrip, the configuration available for NVENC encoder, both H264 and H265, are extremely robust. Also, you can manually update each of the encoders individually, when a new version is available, rather than waiting for a newer Staxrip build with those encoders' new version.

For my side work, I need to encode a tons of Video in HEVC format, both in 1080P and 4K. Since I was using a Intel Haswell-E based 6 Core Core i7-5830K HEDT platform with X99 Motherboard, rather than investing in a new platform, I picked up a Xeon E5-2658 v4 14 Core CPU at cheap price from a Server retailer at just $180 and was using that for encoding. My Card was GTX 1070 Ti and it doesn't support a lot of advanced features like B-Frame and use B-Frame as reference.
Once I upgraded my laptop last year to a Core i9-9880H and RTX 2080 based system, I started reading about the NVENC configuration available in Turning and which tool has the most options available and then switched to GPU encoding using Staxrip.
It now offers the below feature in the GUI only
  • Full 2 Pass Encoding using Quality or Average Bitrate.
  • HDR processing
  • B-Frame support
  • B-Frame as Reference frame
  • Ref Frame up to 20
  • Adaptive Quantization, both spatial and temporal
  • B-Adapt, i-Adapt
  • Non-Ref P-Frame insertion
  • Multi Ref L0 and L1
  • Q-Pel Precision
With all these features properly configured and saved in custom presets for different types of video, now I am outputting same quality video, at around 2% to 5% higher file size than pure software encoding. RTX 2080, with full two pass encoding and almost all the configuration and Quality preset, gives around 180 to 230 frames per second speed, far higher than 30 to 50 fps in my 14 core CPU. A 2-hour H264 1080P video with 20 Mbps, taken in DSLR, approximately takes around 10 minutes foe encoding, with around 5000 to 7000 kbps for a pretty sharp looking output.
Thanks, I'm definitely going to checkout Staxrip, though I've historically been pretty happy with Handbrake or just command line ffmpeg. But that's just mostly habit at this point and haven't been doing any transcoding the past couple years since I spun down my dual Xeon and went with a NAS.

Legion Pro is the system I had been holding out for, but as you mentioned price and availability right now are terrible. I saw mention that there's likely going to be an Ideapad Pro with a 3050, so that's up there too - would love a lighter system if possible, but of course there are trade offs with any choice.

The Swift looks nice for an Acer, but 15.6 is my preferred size, since it will also be used for plenty of productivity stuff for work and school. Transcoding and VMs are the main heavy loads though - most other stuff I could do on a 4600H just fine.

For budget I'd prefer to stay around 1k, but if the perfect laptop that checks all my boxes is released at a higher price, I'll still consider it.

Bought same config machine two weeks ago with credits from the returned crashing dy200+ extra $450. HP shipped it with FedEx economic shipping, and the tracking hasn't been updated for a week in local FedEx location. It might be lost. Not good experience with HP.
FedEx delivered the last laptop I bought from HP to some business on the other side of town, then HP made us wait over a week while they traced the package, which eventally was returned to them. They refused to reship a replacement and gave us a refund. Of course, by that time, the sale was over and I could not get the same or similar configuration for anywhere near the same price.

what would you suggest for under 1000 for video editing
For video editing, normally three things need to be considered mainly.
  1. Powerful Processor: This is one of the most important factor as Video editing with lot of filters and configuration. H series Processors with at least 6 Cores but recommended is 8 Core Processors.
  2. Modern Graphics card with at least 4GB video Memory and latest technology: You don't really need the highest end GPU for this but at least the recent cards which has all the feature supports for the most common editing software. For example, RTX series cards, whether RTX 2000 or RTX 3000 series, support maximum number of features. So, a card like RTX 2060 should be fine.
  3. Fast Storage: You should get a laptop with faster NVMe storage, minimum with 512GB. That fast storage has a positive impact on Video editing. At least buy one which can be upgraded.
  4. Display: Try to get a Laptop with a good quality display, minimum of 100% sRGB, in case you will be using the Laptop screen mainly. However, lot of people use an external display instead of paying extra for a Laptop with the above features + high quality display as you can find a good deal at cheaper price with powerful CPU, GPU and storage but poor display.

Currently, hardware wise, the best bang for buck is the below deal in my opinion.
https://slickdeals.net/f/15018304-evoo-gaming-laptop-ryzen-7-4800h-15-6-120hz-16gb-ram-512gb-ssd-rtx-2060-899-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1
However, the display quality is poor but you can spend another $100 to $120 bucks to get a 27" 1080P display with over 100% sRGB color. If you look for deal, you may be able to even fetch a 2560x1440 QHD display within $150.

Another option, if you want a better display, then keep a eye of 2021 Lenovo Legion 5. Currently the prices are high but they will come down when other stores like BB, Walmart start offering them in numbers. Below model, you can keep a track.

Just wondering if anybody who took advantage of this offer (about a month ago) has received their HP laptop yet? I placed an order for mine back on 22 June 2021 and to this day, haven't received it yet. According to FEDEX, it's currently in Memphis, TN at a FedEx facility awaiting release (it arrived in Memphis on 16 July! Nine days have passed and still no sign of it. I tried calling FedEx Customer support but got a generic message that no further information is available on this shipment.)

Have you received yours yet?

I'm looking for a 2 in one for the wife who will just do basic tasks (email, social media, watch youtube and other content, some basic graphic design stuff for a side business such as labels) and she wants a touchscreen 2 in one for when she is cooking to have a tablet-like device for recipes and etc. This deal is expired, but any suggestions keeping it under 1k? 600-800 preferred?
