Apple doesn't ask for any proof. Literally ANYONE can get the discount. The fine print, if I recall, even says parents can buy for themselves.

I dont know how it happened, but Apple sent me 2 x Airpods. They said I qualified yesterday since I purchased my Air on a few days ago.

tommytgt is right, and to be clear, if you use an M1 based chip, you will get Windows for ARM. The Windows for ARM is unable to run the typical x86/x64 software and only does so in emulation.
