I thought the Amex 120$ offer is for 600$.
Do you know if the 600$ is inclusive of tax?

Yes as long as the total with tax is over $600 the offer will work.

I bought this. Threw in 2x16GB Teamgroup 3200 MHz ram. Two nvme slots. The first one is where the boot drive sits but it's a tiny short stick. Moved it to the second slot because the second slot could only accommodate the short stick. There's a little metal screw plate you move in the first slot and lock it in further down so you can put a 2280 length drive in. I threw in a 2 TB second nvme. Solid machine and pretty quick.
Will this do light gaming? Roblox, mincraft, etc?

$607 tax included. So it'll be $487 after Amex credit. Don't really need this unless it's a great deal.

I'd like to ask a question of those "really smart people" out there.

In my search for a laptop, I see a lot of Ryzen. I have spend years building Windows Desktops and always have used Intel.

Will I see a noticeable "hit" using Ryzen for medium to heavy load Business usage? Minimal gaming. Any considerations?
You seem to have not been around for the last 1-2 years.

AMD Ryzen 5000 series clearly beats the latest Intel Core line up in Multithreaded applications, Power efficiency and lately in many other Single threaded applications. In short, AMD is faster while still being more power efficient.

AMD's integrated GPU also beats Intel's offerings.

AMD has taken back the throne for more than a year now.

You'll see very noticeable improvements especially with the newer Ryzen models

Practically same specs as the Levono Ideapad 3 with the same Ryzen 5 5500U at Walmart (Frontpage deal) for $450. More than $100 less and easier return at Walmart. Unless you MUST have the touch screen.

Could someone compare this to this one for me?

One thing I like about the VivoBook is the DC in is on the right!

I had bought it, returned it since the fan would turn on at 70 C and stay on till temperature fell to 40C and fan was so noisy that I could not focus in a silent room. Did you have similar issues?

Yes had some fan noise but the new latest bios update fixed it. I think they had an April 2021 bios update as well as May. Lots of little microcode to fix. It's gonna be a thin chassis so definitely needs as much airflow as possible from the single bottom intake. I wouldn't use this laptop for any extended heavy encoding work but light gaming is fine.

hmm, I applied the April Bios update, it did make the fan come on less frequently, but was still unbearable. Thanks for the reply though

I disagree with the other "really smart people", the Ryzen 5500U (U means power efficiency) will only be noticeably faster in multi-core performance and slightly better in power efficiency compared to Intel's direct competitor i5 1135G7. They seem to be confusing mobile with desktop AMD where AMD mobile has only recently (April 2020, Ryzen 4000) caught up to intel in performance and value. It will be slightly worse in single-core (business apps use this) and graphics performance, but at this price point the Ryzen 5 is better if the intel model costs more. No noticeable hit will be occur because all recent laptops are speedy. https://www.notebookcheck.net/i5-...596.0.html
