These are shit tents. Went through two of them. Both developed horrible leaks within 3 trips.

A typical camping trip with this: Get to camp, empty out entire bed of truck, set up tent, decide you want to drive to town, store, beach, trailhead, etc., take down entire tent, try to find somewhere protected from the elements to keep the things that are now no longer in your tent, go, return, re-set up tent, put everything back in your tent, try to sleep but can't because your tent leaks, get up, take tent down, remove all wet things from tent, pack all items back into bed of tent, go home. Yay, what a great trip.

Seriously folks, buy a reputable budget-ish brand regular type of tent (Kelty, Alps, even Coleman) and forget this gimmicky nonsense.

A typical camping trip with this: Get to camp, empty out entire bed of truck, set up tent, decide you want to drive to town, store, beach, trailhead, etc., take down entire tent, try to find somewhere protected from the elements to keep the things that are now no longer in your tent, go, return, re-set up tent, put everything back in your tent, try to sleep but can't because your tent leaks, get up, take tent down, remove all wet things from tent, pack all items back into bed of tent, go home. Yay, what a great trip.

Seriously folks, buy a reputable budget-ish brand regular type of tent (Kelty, Alps, even Coleman) and forget this gimmicky nonsense.

One of the reasons I never saw the appeal of these truck bed tents other than being off the ground if you are camping on a beach and not planning to go anywhere or have another vehicle in the group to catch a ride with. Majority of the time a regular tent would be better with more selection in size, configuration, and price.

If you are really going to camp a lot, just buy one of the modern canvas tents and be done worrying about it for the next 30 years. They start at about $400.

I do agree with the overall sentiment here that a regular "ground tent" is better, they are quicker to set up and you don't lose the use of your truck for driving / tailgating / etc. That being said, I own one of these made by another brand, Rightline Truck Tent. I scored the rightline off of craigslist used for $90. I used it once in the desert with my wife and dog. She liked being up off the ground. I also have several other tents made by Marmot, Mountain Hardware, REI etc, and I even have a trailer that I use a lot. I am glad I have the truck bed tent. For whatever reason, psychological or whatever you might just feel more "safe and secure" up off the ground in the truck bed tent. Also, If you are in a snowy enviroment, being off the ground is very important. Clearing snow (or wet mud or grass) off the ground to place a tent is not fun and it's cold and dirty. Make sure you bring a step stool or something to make getting in and out of the truck bed easier. Now, let's talk the latest fad, those super expensive permanently mounted pop up tents on top of Tacomas or 4Runners. I really don't get those. They cost thousands of dollars, make your truck top heavy. You can't drive your truck after they're set up, etc..

I have the Napier Sportz Truck Tent, I do like. You can actually build it on the ground and then put it up on the bed of the truck. I even used a cheap full size mattress and it worked great. You can also take the tent off fully assembled with the mattress still in it of the truck.
