A little New York credit union, USAlliance, has perhaps the most generous rebate credit card out there. It is a Visa Signature card giving back 3% cash back on all purchases [usalliance.org]. This is NOT a category-based card like those that offer 3% or 5% back but only on certain categories like groceries or gas. It gives back 3% across the board, and I am not aware of any monthly rebate limits.

You do have to accumulate 2,500 points, however, before you can turn those points into $25 cash applied to your credit card balance or as a deposit into your credit union savings or checking account. You can also apply the points toward merchandise.

Unlike the popular Citi Double Cash card which gives you 2% cash back on all purchases and dropped most benefits, this card still has almost all traditional credit card benefits [usalliance.org]: price protection, return protection, cellphone insurance (after $50 deductible), trip cancellation, ID theft coverage, etc. Although it is not listed at the above link, extended warranty IS still offered (confirmed to me by a c.u. official and by the provider of the benefit where you file claims). The card does not, however, still offer CDW coverage on car rentals.

What's the catch? How can this little credit union be so generous with 3% back? The benefit only lasts for a year -- until June 30, 2022. Then it reverts to 2% -- which itself is still pretty good. And, if you are approved for the card and not currently a member of the credit union, you must join by opening a savings or checking account with no fees or minimum balance.

Whewww!

I forgot to mention that the extended warranty benefit doubles manufacturer's warranties of three years or less up to an extra year… but does not apply to refurbished productsFrown:

not worth it for an additional 1%. besides, it appears i'm doing most of my spending at 5% and barely have time for the 2% card.

Thanks! I was one of the credit union's first customers to apply for the card when they first offered first offered 3%… and it was pulling teeth to find out the real benefits.

USAlliance raised the cash back from 2% to 3% about April 1, 2021 and are now promising to keep it at 3% until the end of June 2022. At that time, it will revert to 2%. So there is plenty to see here!

Think of the millions of people who have the Citi Double Cash card who are getting 2% with most traditional benefits having been striped away about a year or two ago. This card at 3% with most benefits is amazing by comparison. I don't know of any other 3% on everything card in the market.

I am surprised why this card is not getting more attention. Granted that the net cashback is much lower than cards which come with opening bonus but in the long run, you are getting a card which has 2% WITH benefits. Ever since Citi has stripped benefits on their 2% card, I find myself using the Wells Fargo 1.5% card fairly often.

I agree 200%…. I simply don't get the lack of enthusiasm here. When the manager at my branch of the credit union gave me an advance heads up about their forthcoming 3% offer… I couldn't believe it. I thought he had to be mistaken. It was and is simply the highest paying card for all purchases AND had almost full benefits.

The lukewarm reception is that people expect a bonus for opening and a hard pull beyond 1% extra on purchases. There are cards offering $500-$1000 for signing up. You would have to spend $50k to $100k on this card to get that (assuming we count the 1% as a signup bonus). Also, travel rewards card points are worth a lot more than the cash redemption you get on this card. The price protection is a really nice benefit though - if they let you use it that can be worth a lot. This isn't a bad deal at all for someone looking for a no fee cash card (though I'd argue having to maintain an account with a minimum balance is kind of a small fee)-it's just not a smoking deal.

just the 3% or do all those great benefits go away after the first year?

Hi... The benefits continue afterwards is my understanding. The extended warranty benefit they temporarily dropped this spring, but they brought it back. I certainly hope they keep it because that is the single most important benefit I look for in a credit card.

They have had a 3% card for awhile and it auto credits the 3% rebate every month, but be advised their phone app is garbage.

Exactly I miss price protection on my Citi prestige. I got 1000 refunded on a OLED TV and 800 back on a HVAC unit.

The price protection here is quite generous vs the other 2-3 cards I saw that still have this benefit. If I was planning price protection purchase I would consider the card. Right now I'm just tapping the large airline credit bonuses (chase United and Amex delta). They will be gone by summer.
