Yes, the smaller unit means worse sound… but as an owner of both OG and the Mini, I can tell you that the mini is still very good quality for its size. Every other ability is identical.

I have 7 minis across the house/garage/barn. Last weekend I synced all 7 plus two Apple TV's at once (one of the Apple TV's having music played on two different channels through a stereo) so I effectively had a total of 10 different outputs playing Apple Music. I was home alone moving about the house working on various projects and doing some cleaning. It worked flawlessly and was awesome having immersive sound no matter where I went.

Necessary? No. But was fun and would have been great for a party.

Thanks! Spotify is my default player, but it doesn't verbally play nice with the HomePod for some reason and as awesome as handoff is, I'd rather not have to bring my phone into the bathroom if I don't have to. Spotify however works great with CarPlay.

Certainly, they're half the size of the original Homepod. I'm sure in a stereo pair at moderate volume the Minis are solid speakers. I wouldn't use them as TV speakers or anything like that.

Yes and no. For its size, it's good. I put a mini in our home gym. That lasted about a week and I went out and bought an OG Homepod instead. MUCH better for a large space. The mini is now in our master bath and it's perfect for that size of room. I'll probably buy two of these for bedrooms.

Not exactly. The mini lacks spatial awareness, the ability to "tune" itself by beam forming, to the room like a HomePod can.

I own both. The mini is a solid little speaker but it doesn't compare to the original HomePod.
