I've been tracking this laptop for a bit and finally it's on sale. It's not as good as prior $599 front page deal but $649 is not bad. Also easy returns from Walmart.

Wow I didn't even know Gateway still existed. Those cow boxes are giving me serious 90s flashbacks

They don't. The name is licensed like RCA, Westinghouse, and many others...

Yeah, it's no longer the old Gateway. Miss those days though.

If you add the 3 year warranty from Walmart and decide to upgrade the Ram, does it void that warranty?

Appears to be decent specs for the price. The question is how good is the build quality and how easy is it to get warranty support. Given that it's a licensed brand from an unknown overseas owner, you might find it difficult to impossible to get help or warranty fixes or replacements if needed. Personally, I would spend a couple hundred more on a known brand for peace of mind, better build, and longevity.

To back my assumption, this is an actual review on Amazon:

"Well it's not a bad laptop but it is missing some applications such as the one that controls the backlit keyboard and it is missing some keyboard functionality. Like the sound volume keys not working at all and the brightness keys also not working. Now that I think about it all of the "F" keys don't work or are mapped wrong."

If you are on a budget and you want a decent gaming laptop, this is a good deal. It was front page for $599. It's $50 more this time around but you won't find anything close to this price range. I've been staying on top of the budget gaming laptop deals the last month and this seems to be the best bang for your buck.

I wonder how they'd know that you upgraded the RAM if you carefully open and swap out the RAM stick. Just replace the stick back and close it up. Seems fairly easy to swap out.

The reason I'm asking is I believe they had a void warranty sticker that you remove when taking off the back. I don't know if it does or doesn't actually break the warranty in the US.

No, this specific model was $600 several times and the 1650 doesn't really cut it for gaming. I know we don't have a time machine but late last year there were several laptops with 1650s between $420-$450.

There's a sticker in the back covering a screw.

Yeah, I think that Intel chip outperforms the Ryzen. I believe the IPS panels are similar in quality but Gateway is 120Hz for what is worth.
