Maybe worth noting that the fire 4k stick is now approaching 3 years old and does not support the AV1 codec which will be the new standard.

I'd personally try to wait for a refresh maybe later this year/next year for that. Potentially wi-fi 6e as well.

I'd recommend AGAINST using this. Assuming this is identical to Prime Day pricing, you will miss out on freebie add-ons. In years past, that's been stuff like smart blubs / plugs and subscription services.

Additionally, while I can be 100% certain of this, I have the distinct impression that the new Chromecast, and the TiVo device are both more powerful than the Firestick, and both allow sideloading of apps the same way the Firestick does (albeit with slightly fewer click by click YouTube videos for complete beginners.) I will likely be giving those newer options both a hard look, personally.

EDIT: lots of responses -- seems like the Firestick 4k may still be the best of the options I mentioned.

The third gen is close in specs to the 4K device but still not quite as good per reviews. The 4K will still process video and audio at a slightly higher quality output and it has the added bonus of 4K in case you move it to a capable tv. With it being a couple bucks more, I'd get the 4K.

From what I remember the lite version won't control your tv (audio/channel surfing). You still have to use your original remote for that.

i am sure already...

*Tivo $30 - blocks apps from google store, then hides apk sideloads
Chromecast $50 or **$90 - half the SSD ram of most other ≥8gb sticks
Mi Box S $65 - overheats and often suffers buggy os updates
*Verizon $70 - regular os updates can reset most sideloaded apps
Fire4K $30 or $80 - widest up to date sideload "tech support".

* remotes have many old "cable box" buttons that get in the way
** my second choice but only if you get it with the 6mo Netflix bundle.

yeah, i know Fire4K is nearly 3yo, but it was far ahead of it's time
and the people who really need more cpu and ram are gamers,
so if gaming is your thing, just get any of the other Chinese 4K's
if you won't miss the full compliments of DRMs.
