I mostly use mine for consuming content bought on Amazon. Prime Video, Audible and a ton of paid apps that were free back in the long gone era of the Free App per Day for their app store. Kindle books with lots of graphics work better than on my Paperwhite.

Second most people have no idea how to sideload or use gapps with it. The 2017 was fully jailbroken, so people can flash custom android ROMs. Not sure a about the 2019 versions.
Third, the bootloader as far as I know is still locked. Without it, all you do is get around certain things. You are still trapped within their ecosystem. Sure you can make things "look" or "feel" Androidish. But it's still the Fire OS under the hood running an antiquated version of Android.
Apple has disallowed apps and locks out certain websites. HOW does AMazon Lock down their tablet when you have access to XDA Amazon Tool Box.
And with XDA Amazon Toll Box, you don't have to worry about side loading anything... it does it all for your.
Also there is a chance that the Fire Tablet will be able to be unlocked in the future and maybe we will get Linage installed... like you can do with the Fire Tablets Pre 2019.
I could not get the game "Sky: Children of the Light" to work on the Fire HD10... it said the game is only compatible with Snap Dragon CPUs.
For example, if you have the ring app installed through play, you will either not get any notifications or get them late. The Fire OS is missing certain frameworks to get them working correctly and it's not something you can just sideload without a unlocked bootloader.
And again, most users will not have any issues except with notifications and such. You can completely disable the entire Amazon Eco system. I actually disabled Alexa and installed Google Assistant. I am also able to say OK Google and it will work like that (I disabled that feature cause I have so many smart speakers).
This is a $80.00 tablet that works really well for what it is. My kid plays Heathstone and Roblox. You can play many games with no issues.
And besides Amazon bootloader limiting you... with notifications... I think you are more limited based on hardware, but again, you will be hard pressed to find apps that do not work on this tablet after you do the XDA Amazon Tool Box fix.
If you need more space BUY A DIFFERENT TABLET.

my point is I agree that with only 32gb it would be nice to install on sd, but it can cause issues later
I am sure I can find a app or two that also does not work with a Samsung CPU. SnapDragon CPUs seem to have the largest amount of working apps. But again, most people will not have any issues.

XDA Amazon Tool Box... SO EASY. What is hard is trying to root and install Linage on the 2017 model.
Trapped... ok, but again, most people are able to go to the play store and download every app that they use and never experience an issue. You can DISABLE every Amazon app, you can not delete anything. But the outcome is a tablet that looks and feels like stock android.
And under that is Android 9.

Either way I respect your opinion. And for the record, I don't particularly like Apple either. All of my family members are Apple users, I'm the only holdout using a S21... (Which btw really disappointed in the camera, capturing pictures with motion is way worse on the S21).
BUT as far as I know... YOU CAN install apps on the micro SD card. But again, it is never recommended and will drastically slow down those apps.

Did I mention it is SUPER EASY!!! You do not need to be savvy to do this.
Now about being locked down... things don't work well on the Fire HD10, such as notifications. BUT Apple has blocked apps and has blocked websites. I feel that apple is much more restrictive.
There are main stream articles that talks about sideloading the play store (these articles are even calling out XDA Amazon Tool Box as how to do it). But YES to your statement, most people do not do this but I believe most people on slickdeals DO this.
