I'm waiting for a deal on the Plus version of this 2021 tablet. It has 4 GB of RAM instead of 3 GB and adds wireless charging.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08F6FYN6B

Interested to see if you can add a Trade-in on the web (save 20% and currently offering $30 more for my last generation 10" Fire Tablet) and then order with Alexa?

It looks like you can still load the Google Play Store on this new version of the tablet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beC8NlF0H2w

I mostly use mine for consuming content bought on Amazon. Prime Video, Audible and a ton of paid apps that were free back in the long gone era of the Free App per Day for their app store. Kindle books with lots of graphics work better than on my Paperwhite.

Added to cart with Alexa and it shows the $70 discount but doesn't credit me for my 20% trade in or the $15 credit for using Amzn Photos. Can't use the $10 Discover promo either.

If you want one of the other colors:

Alexa, order a Denim Fire HD 10 Tablet.
Alexa, order a Olive Fire HD 10 Tablet.
Alexa, order a Lavender Fire HD 10 Tablet.

Spend the MONEY and get the tablet with 64GB.

BUT as far as I know... YOU CAN install apps on the micro SD card. But again, it is never recommended and will drastically slow down those apps.
I would install apps I dont use that I cant uninstall. There was a way to do it on Firestick but forgot how. I think it updated though and put them back.

Again.... if you have a PC... XDA Amazon Tool Box is SUPER EASY. It disables all Amazon bloat ware, installs Nova Launcher and play store and Disney and Netflix. And so much more.

Did I mention it is SUPER EASY!!! You do not need to be savvy to do this.

Now about being locked down... things don't work well on the Fire HD10, such as notifications. BUT Apple has blocked apps and has blocked websites. I feel that apple is much more restrictive.

There are main stream articles that talks about sideloading the play store (these articles are even calling out XDA Amazon Tool Box as how to do it). But YES to your statement, most people do not do this but I believe most people on slickdeals DO this.
Meh I think most people who read the forums know, but lots of lurkers only browse the FP probably won't.

For anyone sitting on the fence regarding Prime:

Ten minutes ago, I wasn't a Prime member, and it offered me $30 trade-in value on my pristine 2019 version of the HD 10. OK, so I signed up for Prime to get the deal.

Just like that, now I'm offered only $15. No deal! Very deceptive! Will just keep my perfectly fine HD 10.

Will be cancelling Prime after my 30 day trial.

They also changed how the 20% off kindle device for trade in is handled. if you mail the device in, you get 20% off a future kindle device (coupon does expire). If you want the 20% off to apply to prime day sale kindle device, you have to trade in old device at amazon store or UbreakIFix location (ymmv on whether a certain location even accepts it)

After using the XDA Amazon Tool Box, is it correct that you no longer receive the Amazon fire os updates? I have the Google Play Store and apps side-loaded on a 2017 HD 10 and it works fine for me. Maybe the XDA Amazon Tool Box would make it (or a new 2020/21 model) work even better. But what about the lack of security updates? Are the fire os updates worthless? Can anyone please confirm if they stop coming? Thanks.

[ Edit: The Plus version is now on sale for $110, or $150 for the 64 GB version, without using Alexa and you can get the 20% trade in plus the value for the item you are returning. ]

Interested to see if you can add a Trade-in on the web (save 20% and currently offering $30 more for my last generation 10" Fire Tablet) and then order with Alexa? [ EDIT: looks like people who have tried later in this discussion haven't been able to get that to work ]

I don't see anywhere on that page to set it up with this edition (10th version 2021 fire).

Edit… trying the XDA toolbox but having difficulties.

I was able to perform a trade-in for a 2019 Fire HD10 that I have (which will provide me with $30 back once it is accepted).

I was able to manually get an additional $25 off the price by chatting with CS and discussing how to get the additional 20% off on a new tablet when trading in an old tablet. This was done in chat by a supervisor.

So, after I recieve the $30 GC once my trade-in is accepted I'll have gotten the 32GB 4GB RAM HD10 Plus for $60. Not bad for a 4GB RAM tablet which is keyboard ready, wireless charging and has a brighter screen vs. the 2019 HD10 version. Hopefully the FireTools utility will work to strip the crappy Amazon junk that comes with these tablets to give me a more native android experience.

Yes, the security updates will stop coming if you choose to not automatically receive the Amazon updates. Of course you can choose to receive the updates which may reset the tablet and break the tool box's settings of hiding/removal of Amazon apps and may disrupt the Google Play app. If that happens you can usually get everything back by running the utility again but there is a risk that Amazon figures a way so that the utility no longer functions appropriately.

It's $15 if you indicate there's something wrong with your tablet. It's $30 if you indicate it can hold a charge and there's no cracks. You may have clicked on the wrong bubble and mistakenly indicated there's something wrong with your trade-in tablet. I just did this for my 2019 HD10 and should be getting $30 back.

Thanks, but no. There are only two very simple questions that I was careful to answer. Amazon definitely lowered the trade-in value on my pristine "old" unit on me once I joined Prime.

Does the device work perfectly and hold a charge?
Yes

Are there any cracks/defects on the device or display?
No

We'll confirm the condition of your device once it's received. Choose how you'd like to proceed if we need to adjust its value.

Accept the adjusted value
The adjusted value is $15.00

It's odd, my box shows 11th Gen and my fire hd settings show 10th Gen. Did they mix them up somehow?

Wierd... I would chat with CS and see what's going on. As I said, I traded in my 2019 HD10 and got a follow-up email that indicated the following:

Hi xxxx, ship your $30.00 trade-in before the offer expires.

Ship by August 5, 2021.

It's odd, my About Tablet settings shows HD FIRE 10 (10th Generation) but the box shows 11th generation.
