Not everyone wants a hunk of metal stuck to their board . No one will be buying this for overclocking but it will cool just fine a cpu at stock , it will fit better in a small enclosure , it will perform better in a airflow starved niche itx case, it is a much more elegant solution and the pump failure is a moot point since nowadays these last for years . Also pump failure not the same as leaky aio. So there's a use case for this albeit not for the majority and just like with everything else , it comes down to what you're buying it for

Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should or it's optimal. The point is an air cooler will perform better for less money without the risk of failure. Sure it's better than stock cooling, but so is a Lasko box fan.
A 120mm/140mm will perform around the same as a mid range air cooler while costing more. It won't come anywhere near the performance of a high end air cooler. These are simply facts.

Single fan AIOs are absolute garbage. Anyone who knows anything about building computers knows that these are simply designed to throw into pre-built cases to be able to advertise it as "water cooled" while it offers subpar cooling even compared to way cheaper air designed coolers. To show how bad they are, most pre-built cases even use them as exhaust fans to show how completely clueless they are.

Search your local craigslist and you'll probably find them for $10 locally because of all the people buying BestBuy pre-builts and ripping these out and hoping someone will give them $5 for it to help recoup some of their money for buying a pre-built to rip out the 3080/3070/3060ti/3060 GPU.

This is my own experience but I had an Asetek 120mm AIO 550LC I put in my i7 2600K Sandy Bridge system over 10 years ago. It kept the CPU at 35C idle and at 70 - 80C at max load even when overclocked (sometimes 5 ghz). Even today that system is being used by my nephew and the pump runs fine with the same temperatures after reapplying the thermal paste.

Yes, all pump failure means is a crash. Doesn't cause any hardware damage, the CPU shuts down due to heat. I just put a stock cooler on and stopped OC. After 7 years running on an OC i7-3770k, for an AIO that I also had paid about 30 bucks for, I definitely got my money's worth.

That's correct and i agree.
After a decade of custom loops and using AIOs in my builds i can confidently say that most leaks happen due to fittings: incorrectly installed, cheap, loose, with cheap o-rings or bad fittings. Unfortunately that may happen over time as liquid gets hot expands or cheap o rings being used, but this issue generally shows up right away or within the first few times being used because the liquid will either leak or not. a bad pump will stop working/liquid stops moving/cpu overheats and you either notice it or it shuts down.
There is always a risk with leaks and damaging components but nowadays its tiny and i would personally recommend an AIO in lieu of any tower cooler unless uve got a tiny form factor like a Velka 7 case or something where an AIO is just not an option at all and where a tiny air cooler is all u can work with.

Disagree. There are applications for everything. My alienware case can barely fit a proper cpu cooler. Ive tried, and limited to low profile. Swapped a 120mm cooler and threw some noctuas on it and it gives me GREAT TEMPS. Granted, i have a 3700x which is low TDP, but nevertheless, thats one application right there that proves you wrong. Maybe because i spent up a bit and got a corsair, but 120 is 120.

My i7-7700 that is also a lower tdp cpu (65w) hits 70-75c easily when gaming on warzone with a 120mm aio. It's working for now but the fans have to stay at full blast to keep it at that temp which has made it louder than when I had a 212 Evo air cooler.
that's actually a bad example the 7700 was known to produce spikes even in normal use, and bad TIM job at that. And if you didn't do a competent install of the AIO (pilot error), it very well could appear that way.

Edited to add: Yes there are applications for this cooler....same goes for a gutted muffler on a Civic...other people can see/hear that you don't care about real performance and just wanted to be able to say "I've got water cooling" or "look at my custom exhaust!"
My experience actually working for the gov't/mil with heat transfer and cooling of aircraft hardware...I'm an EE.

My Corsair 120mm AIO has been perfect since 2013 as a daily for my i5-3570k.
No leaks, but I did unscrew it and try dump in some extra distilled water because I was worried about evaporation. But I was surprised, it was basically full and I wasted my time.
Hadn't planned on running this machine this long, but I'm continuing to put off a replacement due to cost and availability issues.
Single fan AIOs are absolute garbage. I like using 120mm AIOs on systems I am selling. They cool a stock Ryzen 5 / i5 class CPU without any issues. They are more attractive to the buyer typically looking for a pre-built. But, the most important reason I use them as well as most pre-built vendors, they hold up to shipping better than any tower cooler. All of the weight is mounted to the chassis and the part mounted to the board is well supported and low profile. I've had sockets completely destroyed by even small 120mm tower coolers but never had a single AIO cause any shipping related issues.
Of course this is all within reason. I wont put a single 120 on anything over 65w TDP. I also make sure the pump is wired straight to the power supply so it always runs at full speed the second the computer is powered on.
