Usually don't see extensions for this cheap. I grabbed 4 at this price.

With that big of a project I would DEFINITELY go with Sowilo Designs for the Hue light strips over actual Hue brand strips. Their strips are better, can be extended much longer so you don't have to keep installing a bunch of receivers, and work exactly to Hue specs. They even use a Hue receiver but add amplification.

That's what I did in my house for all under cabinet, shelf, and toe kick lighting. They make the actual Hue strips look really cheap, dim, and too far between LEDs by comparison.

Reach out to them for bulk pricing if you are buying a bunch and you'll get better pricing. https://sowilodesign.com/

Bonus, Mike is super helpful and will help design what you need. They even solder.
Sowilo uses an authentic Hue controller, so it's exactly the same integration. They just designed a higher quality strip with higher guage wire, higher CRI, more LED density per meter, and then attach an authentic Hue controller along with a 5 channel high frequency amplifier that allows you to go longer without losing brightness.

The Philips Hue strip light controller only puts out 20 watts, so when you extend it you lose lumens per LED. Not so with Sowilo's setup. They essentially took all of the good parts of Hue integration and made it work for more applications than an average Joe putting up one strip light.

Keep in mind you are working with 20 watts of power. The longer you go, the more dim your strip will be. If there's another non extended strip in the room, that strip will look brighter at the same brightness level and will not match.
I had assumed that the 20w was rated for the entire length of their recommended maximum, being 33ft / 10m before a reduction in brightness. I'll have to test this out.

The long ones won't be in combination with any shorter strips so it won't be an issue. I only have 3 extensions so far, but I don't see a discernable difference with one unit vs one + 3 extensions. I'll test more as more extensions arrive though!

Where do you get Sowilo? Is that brand cheaper?

It's more high end and extendible, but not cheaper for a one off strip scenario. For several strips for a project, or if you want closer LEDs or the ability to go long with no loss in lumens, it likely would be cheaper as well as being better.

Yes, there are many led light strip defusers on Amazon. I was going to go with one that had an aluminum base to assist with any heat from the LED's and extend the life of the strips. There are quite a few good YouTube videos on how to install them well and how to avoid common mistakes.

I used the original hue in an older home and they looked amazing for ceiling and cabinet accent lighting. These are going to look great!
Second the guy who was curious about which youtube videos you liked and thought were helpful!

The base kit is $60 (down from a supposed $80 MSRP).. Is that a good deal?

Sounds like a serious project. Yes this is a great deal for these, especially if you can buy in quantity.

Have you found a good mounting system for these in a permanent installation like that? The little flexible strips are fine for temporary decorating or accent, but I think I've heard of people using custom metal or plastic mounting channels to create a more stable and finished-looking installation.
We use a track and defused but these may not fit in all of those tracks. The smaller tapes will fit

these were on clearance for I think $7.50, maybe $5, earlier this year (there was a post about it.) they got to the point that they didn't ring up with a price in store. wonder why they are back at full price again, this sale non-withstanding? and yes, they were the newer Bluetooth ones

What's actually needed for integration with a hue hub? Do you need the led strip, amplified hue controller for each strip, and power supply for each strip? This must be wrong? Those increase the cost drastically above hue LS.

Bought this in the hopes that it will be compatible with the my non-bluetooth hue strips I bought 6 months ago. If not I will have to return it.

I wonder if there's a technical reason Philips made this change... Or do they expect existing customers to trash several meters of (expensive) existing strips in order to add a bit of length.

Does it have both BT & Wifi capabilities? I found the value of the BT when I had a knock-down, drag-out battle with Comcast.

I also highly recommend Sowilo for longer applications and/or where you want better brightness. Since they use a hue controller, all normal functions work (e.g. light sync etc). If you're just doing a small run under a cabinet, you'll be fine with this.
