Both Diablo and Bosch have carbide-version optimized spade bits available which cut even faster and claim to be able to drill through nails (a claim that I have not personally verified).
Warning: the improved spade bit style requires a substantial drill (w/ side handle for >1" cuts) to reduce likelihood of wrist fracture in case of sudden binding.
Whatever you get, during rapid drilling keep a cup of cold water nearby. Dip the bit after each bore to cool it back down. Heat is the enemy of steel strength, sharpness, and longevity. This tip will extend the life of reciprocating saw blades too. Good luck.
