It does not have any surge protection, that it what makes it cruise ship compliant.

For travel use, this could use a few more USB ports and less regular outlets. I don't really bring non-usb powered items traveling often anymore.

Have this - note, it only allows one usb port or the other! When I plug both in, both do not work, but alone they work fine.

Exactly this. I jumped on this deal the last time it was posted and when I got it, I was surprised how awkward it functioned in regards to the usb ports. Although I might add that both ports do work simultaneously if you have low draw devices plugged in. Two high draw devices causes weird conflicts or shuts off one port.

For example, I run a USB-C speaker from mine and use the other port to slow charge my phone. When I unplug the speaker, suddenly my phone notifies me its "Fast Charging". If I unplug my phone, my speakers suddenly get louder.
