A no name company? It sold to Sonova, a Swiss company thats been around since the 40's. They have nearly 4 times the revenue of Sennheiser. They are also a global leader in hearing aids and cochlear implants.
What is with all these people saying Sennheiser is like some trash sound company all of a sudden? They got bought by a well known international company known for hearing aids and have said they have no intention of changing anything about the current running of the headphone department. Even if they're lying, why would anyone assume the quality will go down or up for their headphones going forward? We have no evidence that their headphones will be better or worse in the future, literally none.

And to the person saying Sonova is a no-name brand, obviously you wouldn't know what it is because you probably don't use a hearing aid, they're very much known here in the U.S. too. Theres many valid reasons to be mad with capitalism, but headphone brand being bought and managed by a different audio brand isn't instant doomsday news for Sennheiser. Just buy or don't buy the $98 solid pair of headphones and move on lol. The time to protest isn't on a Slickdeals page with like 25 people seeing your war on the new Sennheiser
Maybe people are buying wireless Bose 700 or Sony XM4?
This is a solid price for an awesome headphones. I have the 598SE.

So there prolly wont be any support but yes I have many senns and they are solid, they are a lil behind the curve on tech i.e. wireless, anc, etc which didnt help

Specifically consumer audio. They're still very much in the pro-audio business, from my understanding.

The company they sold to has worked in the medical hearing space for years, so it's not just a random medical manufacturer. Expect the consumer medical devices space to start filling up with earphones and headphones soon, just as it has with smart health watches, personal EKGs, etc.

Still like the HD58x for $170 over these

Easy to drive, no DAC/AMP needed for most Android phones, iPhone, Mac

PC and PS4 players may need a DAC/AMP but for general listening think the extra $70 gives you a better sound for your money

Read reviews to determine what is better

Bass, I have both and the 599 I have don't compare to the 598. I ended up restoring my 598.

I would argue that it's too early to make a judgement(positive or negative) on the future of Sennheiser products with the consumer brand going under new ownership, however changing ownership has little to do with Capitalism, just ask all the companies that became state owned(changing hands in ownership) under Communism; not to mention in this case, the change of hands is happening under a Socialistic government.

Politics aside, it is natural to be skeptical of future products from a company that goes under new ownership or even management, history shows this. I will reiterate my first statement though, it's still too early to tell, but Sennheiser certainly had a good thing going, so let's just hope Sonova delivers and doesn't take liberties to screw it up.

It can still go either way, only time will tell.

You may be saying the two things separately, that is you like the HD58x better is separate from the "easy to drive / no DAC/AMP needed". But, if you meant the easy to drive being the benefit of the HD58X over the 599s the opposite is true, at 80ohms the 599s are easier to drive. That said, if you just mean the HD58Xs are better and in most cases don't require an amp, then proceed as normal Wink. I have no experience or opinion on either, just wanted to clarify that both should be fine without an amp in most cases, the 599 a bit more so.

Anyone who thinks wireless is the future, it's very convenient and I use it when I am out of the house for portability or if I need noise cancelling or listening in private. The downside with Bluetooth on an iPhone for example, it's still limited, it can only do AAC at 256 kbps. With lossless now supported for Apple Music using the cheap lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter you can achieve 24 bit 48 which is 2,304 kpbs. Of course the argument if you can hear the difference is debatable. Also these are open headphones so it'll sound more spacious and great for listening to music for enjoyment, will leak a lot of sound and shouldn't be used in public. When out in public having close back with noise cancelling will do more to sound quality then bitrate.

Any audio Bluetooth receiver will work with them. You might want to look for something higher-quality though, if you want to get everything out of the headphones though.
