Hynix gets a second rate reputation because of memory enthusiasts circle jerking around and asking "is it SAMMY B-DIE? Oh it's Hynix? Damn oh well." Hynix is an excellent company on par with Samsung when it comes to making nand storage (and ram for that matter). These drives are good to go

Great price for the best laptop drive [anandtech.com] you can buy. CCC says it was this price only once before.

Near the top of NVMe performance, power draw as good as SATA. Class of its own for efficiency among premium NVMe drives. Spending more nets you almost nothing, and budget offerings are far less performant/efficient.

I bought two (one for a family member).

If you're looking for an NVME in a laptop, there is no other drive to buy. The power efficacy, wake up latency, great speeds make this drive pretty damn hard to beat.
Sure it's not the fastest, but it's in the top 3-5. It's the most well rounded.

Grabbed one to run as an external drive on my m1 macbook. I just bought the MacBook to edit video mobily but when I yanked an Adata XPG 8200 off of my pc and put it in an enclosure, it gets so hot on the MacBook it shuts down. Everyone is mentioning the efficiency of this drive so I hope it work better. Anyone using this in an enclosure and on an M1 mac?

This drive generally performs a little better in terms of sustained read and write speeds while using less power and running cooler. But you can't go wrong with either drive.

My mobo is an MSI B550 Gaming Edge [msi.com] and I'm pretty sure it can handle two M.2 / NVMe drives (I have one installed for OS).

Very hard for me too to pick. In the end i picked the crucial since it is shipped and sold by Amazon so I was able to apply the Citi $20 off 50 making it even cheaper.

This. I work on enterprise-grade servers all day (HP ProLiant/Synergy, Dell PowerEdge, etc.) and many of them are oufitted with Skynix RAM and/or SSD as OEM from the factory. I also just got a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro which came with two 1TB SK Hynix SSDs and the read/write on them are superb with CrystalDiskMark Seq Read = 3671 MB/s and CrystalDiskMark Seq Write = 3470 MB/s.
