Are there any downsides to turning it off? I don't know much about it - clearly.
Turning it off takes just a few minutes from the Windows Store and makes Windows 10S full Windows 10 Home. The S designation just means you can only install apps from the store and not whatever you download from the web.
Purchased this laptop on Prime Day 2019. RAM and Hard Drive were easy to upgrade. However, I'd suggest getting some sort of extended warranty. After 1 year the screen went black and I could not fix it.
It is fine for web browsing, watching video, editing documents, etc. I wouldn't expect it play new games well at all (not that the integrated graphics are great anyways), and not great for editing videos, etc.
Sounds like you can add one stick of ram. I would recommend adding in another 4gb.
Should make for a pretty decent machine once you add RAM, and apparently it has an open 2.5" bay for easier space expansion if you don't want to upgrade the M.2 SSD directly. This should easily run older games and games with lower system requirements, things like Roblox or Minecraft.

Thank you! Got the Gateway one with better cpu and 16gb ram for $499
I added 16GB of RAM I wasn't using (to bring total to 20GB) and it does have a free slot for a 2.5 inch SSD. For $299 it has FHD, Ethernet jack (becoming more rare), WiFi 6, nvme boot drive, Windows 11 compatible CPU, a fingerprint reader, and a backlit keyboard. It seems like a great value to me.
The octane 2.0 score was 33k which is much higher than most cheap Chromebooks.
The weight isn't bad for a 15 inch laptop. My one gripe is no usb-c charging (even slow charging would be ok). Boo.
