Unless you're using the camera (I'm not), save the money and get gen 1. Slightly slower processor but I'm not using it for gaming. I would have upgraded for better resolution.

It's not instant any more. You ship the device, they appraise it then apply the discount to your account.

It actually doesn't sound that way. It sounds like a coupon you can use on a future qualifying device. It's confusing and really puts a damper on a lot of these deals.

"Once accepted, an Amazon.com Gift Card equal to an appraised value of your Echo device or bluetooth headphone or speaker, plus a bonus 25% off a new qualifying Echo device will be applied to your account."

Wow, that really sucks. By the time they received and approved the trade-in it won't be the same prime day price. A bad move by amazon because how can they expect customers to trade-in first without getting the new device. It going to create a gap period of no device.

I also was not aware that the trade-in process had evolved (been a couple of years since the last trade-in).
I talked to 2 Amazon CSR's and they advised me to just place the order and then contact customer service (after trade-in device RECEIVED) for a credit equal to the trade-in discount.
So I made separate orders, won't open them, and if for some reason they won't issue the credit retroactively, simply return them.
AFAIK they archive their chats, so I should have "proof". YMMV
These deals are too good to pass up - I just packaged up 6 devices for trade-in!
