New member = not a member within last 6 months. A way to bypass this is alternate between yourself and significant other/family member as primary and use a different email.

anyway, can we still use our expired account email for new sams sign up? i am talking about 3 years expired. will they still honor it? in the old days, i had to call in to request them for the old account removal before i could use my email again for the new customer signup.

Gmail treats everything after a plus sign as just filterable. So you can give Sams your email as joesmith+Sams2020{@gmail} However the last time we tried this, the lady at customer service desk said "I can't enter a plus sign for your email, do you have a different email?"
Ha! When we had trouble with the first attempt at this offer, the CS girl did a search on my wife's phone number and driver license number. Her eye's widened and she showed us the screen and said, "There are a dozen different accounts that come up, which one is you?"
Their system remembered EVERY time she had an account in her name, every other year for the last 15-20 years we have been alternating.
I just said screw it, and used a single purpose outlook email alias, and a different cell phone number.
Big hint: when you go into the store to get the Sams card, use it IMMEDIATELY to make sure it works. We were in a hurry so we just got the card and left. Next time we were in Sams was 2 weeks later and that's when we discovered that the card did not work. Was not in their system. If we had used it right then, we could have just gone right back to the service desk and got it straightened out.

I tried to do this and the girl told me I had to sign up online myself, or if they signed me up in the store I would not get the $45 gift card. I pointed out that the email I received clearly says sign up online or bring email printout to the store to sign up and get $45 gift card. Then she said that could sign me up using my phone and wanted me to give her my phone to do it. I refused to hand over my phone. The other lady working there agreed with the first one. So I took my printed email and left.
