Do keep in mind, if you only want to use one earbud on occasion, it would have to be the right. These have the master/slave connection set up where the right is the master that connects to the device, and the left connects to the right. So you can't use the left on its own. This was a deal breaker for me, and why I went with the Sony WF-1000XM3s. I like to listen to podcasts in one ear sometimes, and like to switch earbuds to try and balance out the battery life expectancy.
Only get the Sennheiser if sound quality, instrument separation, and sound stage are a top priority.
The sony xm4 and better noise cancelling. The sound isn't nearly as good, but close enough for most people I think. It's the only one that I was willing to give up the Sennheisers for in lieu of the other features the XM4 boasts.
The sennhesier does a good job of blocking background noise on calls, but the Sony is better. However, the Sony mic gets distorted when it's blocking out background noise (I assume this will be fixed with a firmware update)
The XM4 has eerily good ANC. I could never get my right ear to seal no matter which ear tip I used, including aftermarket. So although the ANC was good, the right ear always leaked in sound. Making the Sennheiser not very far off.
The Sennheisers have better passive noise cancelling because they stick in your ear further.
One thing that REALLY irks be about the Sennheiser is call sound quality with both buds in. It's terrible. So I only take calls with the right earbud in. Which wasn't as big of a deal as I thought because I usually only use one ear bud for calls anyway. But it was kind of annoying.
Active hear through is more natural on the Sony, but sometimes a little weird.
Battery life about the same, but if you use LDAC on the Sony... and you should then it falls a couple hours short of the Sennheiser.
TL;DR
Sound:
Senn - 11/10
Sony - 8/10
Mic:
Senn - 8.5/10
Sony - 8/10 (would be a 9 if not for the distortion with background noise)
ANC -
Senn - 8/10
Sony - 10
Call Quality
Senn - 7/10
Sony - 9/10
Comfort -
Senn - 9/10
Sony - 5/10 YMMV
This is an awesome deal. I have their first generation ones and those sound really good as well. Those have a weird battery drain issue which I believe is resolved in these second gens
I am glad I saw this deal posted. I picked one up today from Best Buy , and they price matched with the Sennheiser website. It's YMMV though as they refused the price match when I asked on the phone

l've been interested in these the past 2 days doing my research on wireless earbuds so great timing!
One thing that worries me is l've heard the size of the case is a little bulky, would you say these are comfortable to place in jean pockets without bothering you too much while walking?

How did these compare sound quality-wise to the Sony WF-1000XM4? I place a high value on sound quality and a neutral sound profile, but I also use earbuds primarily for podcasts so I like being able to use either earbud independently and I'm looking for features like good noise canceling for the gym etc.
I've been going back and forth between these and the WF-1000XM4. Any thoughts on their direct comparisons? Thanks.
I'm all about noise canceling over sound quality and reviews show its just meh with these, although the sound quality is amazing. OP, what were the best noise canceling ones you tried?

I don't have experience with the Sony. The two most important things I look for in a pair of earbuds is the sound quality and the fit which has a huge impact on the sound quality. These fit very well. As for the sound, I bought the previous gen, and those have been the best sounding earbuds I have ever owned. I picked up these yesterday from Best Buy and loving the sound on these thus far. I think Bose does noise cancellation the best, but these earbuds are no slouch either. One thing to note, Sennheiser still seems to be struggling to get their app right. Like a lot of other traditional great speaker companies, Sennheiser hasn't quite figured out the mobile tech aspect yet. Great sounding speakers with a below par app. While we all look at product reviews, another indication of product satisfaction for things like earbuds is the rating of the app in the App Store for that product. Sennheiser is terribly lacking in that area. Bose seems to be doing a lot better!

Not OP here, but Bose has always done noise cancellation very well. I have used their Quietcomfort series extensively when I was traveling a lot by plane. Based on the recent reviews, the newest Sony earbuds do a very good job as well. I would try the Sony's, but their microphone quality based on reviews seems to be not as good. At this point, it's too early to tell if that can be fixed by a software update or not

Thx, I have the Bose QC35 for traveling and they are amazing, was just hoping to find something smaller 80% as effective.

Cannot vouch for the wireless earbuds, but I still have their wired noise cancelling earbuds, and those are my all time favorite. I actually bought those after try over the ear QCs, and liked them better
I been using the WF-1000XM3's since launch and love them. The new XM4's look like they're an improvement in every way. I was prepared to buy the XM4's but now you got me thinking. Can you do a more direct comparison between the two with regards to sound quality, noise cancellation, call quality and battery life?
