I know a lot of people talk smack about the S, but man, I love mine, I'm not one to pixel count, so as long as the game I'm playing is 1080p, I'm fine, looks great on my LG CX, especially when the games are still kicking at 60fps or better.
Also travels well, I'm able to throw it in my bag next to my laptop when I travel and it's great for hotel downtime.
I have no problem with the S's performance. If that were the only difference, I'd already own one. My problem is the measly storage. 512GB, only 364GB left after OS. When a lot of AAA games run over 100GB, that's gonna fill up real quick. You can remedy this by getting a storage expansion card, but that brings the total cost to more than the Series X.
If you're a very casual gamer who only plays one or two games at a time, the Series S may be a good buy. But I'm pretty casual, don't have a ton of games, and I've been struggling with the 500GB storage limit on my PS4 for a couple years now. It can only be worse with newer games.
Its Costco. They are a warehouse retailer. They have paid members and they purchase in bulk. People pay membership fees for access to prices below MSRP. Those membership fees help pay for things being sold under MSRP.

Exactly the storage alone should dissuade people from going for this
Call of Duty Modern Warfare a last gen title that came out almost 2 years ago is currently sitting at 280GB and counting with new updates 10-20GB added
That's an old generation title now imagine a truly next gen title that will eat up 85-90% of the systems entire storage
Microsoft wanted to get as many people into the ecosystem but forcing developers to cater to a console that is much less powerful than the next gen consoles was a short sighted move that will only hurt consumers
Much less powerful..... I agree that it isn't fantastic but much less powerfull.... I think that is a stretch even for me...

Surprised you wouldn't get a Series X when 120hz Dolby Vision is coming to CX/Xbox.. But hey, everyone has their reasons, lol. (CX/Series X owner)
For games that will utilize Unreal Engine 5 the current resolution and framerate target for Xbox Series X is 1080p at 30 FPS at maximum settings. So unless you are fine with 720p you are going to need the Xbox Series X to play the latest Unreal Engine 5 games at 1080p.

That's only this specific demo, not the entirety of the UE5. All games will have their own targets. The point still stands that resolution and frame rates offered will be better on the X, but for some that doesn't matter as much.

Can you upgrade the internal hard drive to a 1gb ssd easily like the PS4?
