I owned one of these things for about a day back when Home Depot was clearing them out. This represents a swing-and-a-miss by Ego. They call it a "modified sine wave" but according to my 'scope it wasn't not much more than a square wave. This limits what you can use with it. Inductive loads like AC fan motors are a no-go. Ego should have spent a few more dollars and slapped a real sine wave circuit on it.

These were on sale 2 weeks ago for 15% off and stacked with other discounts. I picked up the nexus hub and it fried first use.

do you know if the similar smaller Ryobi 18V version?

I have both ego and ryobi battery, and I have the inverter from ryobi. I don't see why this will be better than the ryobi one if they both output 150 watt... you can get the ryobi for much less than this if you do the battery deal......

Wow, I have one of these and that is a worrisome comment. Is there something that I can plug into the device to prevent damage, or should I only use in specific cases? I find it great for camping and charging phones or portable projector. I was about to buy another..

Can you use this to power WIFI such as cable modem and router during outage? I remember read somewhere that anything that have AD/DC adaptor will be fine with this? Is that true?
