Thanks to this deal post I leaned that Heat is out in 4K digital. I'm also holding out for the disc. This movie deserves to be experienced with the best a/v quality possible.

Does it matter if I purchase thru Amazon or vudu/MA for quality?

I'll be watching mostly on a fire TV cube. See a lot of comments about fire TV 4k quality issues

No. You'll receive it on both platforms if they're connected to MA.

iTunes has both versions. Since it's MA you will have access if you use/hook MA up to your iTunes.

Don't think so. It came through as HD5.1 when I watched it the other day. BUT, it was my first time experiencing the film in full-surround, and it was just incredible. The scene at the beginning and the bank heist scene were my two favorite action sequences of all time anyway, and adding the surround made it that much better. The real firearms and blanks sound so distinctive, and the bullet whizzing effects had me ducking a few times.

I'm not totally bought in on Atmos (I feel like it's kind of a gimmick) but I can see why you might want it. I would say that if you don't have it in any surround-sound format $5 is a pretty cheap price of entry.
