Good deal, thanks OP.

FYI

Good idea to do a clean install of Windows every now and again. That's why Microsoft has made it so easy (Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > "Reset this PC") and 20 minutes later you are good to go.

Vetroo V5 is ideal IMO, fits case with few mm to spare from lid. No need to spend noctua prices

Don't be so easily triggered by people providing helpful information. They were nowhere near as judge-y as you were in your comment. I, for one, appreciate their heads up.
there was a whole thread on this just a few days ago.

50 seconds in: "We've had to lower our standards to 'Does it turn on without a problem?'". Yeah, this is a GLOWING recommendation.

Just go to YouTube and look through their videos. They bash on just about everything except for a handful of individual components.
Before you said:

Let us know if you find one they do recommend.

Hint: They don't.

But, as I responded, they do! Is it GLOWING? No it is not. By the way, I don't think I have ever seen a glowing review from GN. They are not a news org that offer praise, they are in fact the opposite and highly critical of anything, so if you want something with hyperbole go to Linus Tech Tips or a million other channels. A 'it's okay' from GN is a 'it's friggin' amazing' from other news venues. Please note I'm not saying for regular users to check out the GN video because, yes, it's a nerd channel, they are going to talk about power voltages and literally tear down every component to analyze. That is what they do - the people noting it are just saying it's not a good value system on any angle because it is built really poorly.

All moot points however, the GN video is produced for computer nerds to advise system purchases for those that aren't computer nerds. On that level, everything they say is spot on, and being an advanced builder I agree with their assertation that 'non tech' users should really try and avoid the Dell G5 Gaming system. Don't know why this is a hot topic, find a video from another reputable computer reviewer that says it's good and convince other SDers to not listen to GN, but don't respond with 'GN is doing what GN does [which is trash the products in all their reviews], even though they think the G5 is one of the worst of the bunch.

Not bad not bad. The pc itself is not bad and its priced right. Would have loved it around high 600s but not bad.

Do you mean the similar ABS challenger system on Newegg that's sold out and priced at $1000? Is that a better deal than this Dell? It may be, but one has to ask what the dollar value of fear over a portion of proprietary parts vs the sense of security and pride in owning all brand name parts is. Also you gotta convince yourself Newegg is gonna have your back more than Dell will.
I'll agree that availability is an issue with any computer components these days (though as someone else noted GPU prices may finally be resetting) so if there are no other options, get what you have to get.

The G5 is built really poorly though - like more poorly than ABS, Cyberpower, or any other third tier computer builder. I don't think it's a good value system at 500 bucks, 750 or MSRP at 1000.

I despise Newegg and their customer service more-so than the next nerd. But: I believe Dell is a million times worse. I have bought in my job well over 1k Dell desktops in one go and still can't get anyone to assist with an issue sans calling a college friend that is a VP there. Same on individual purchases when I was younger.

I'm not saying 'don't get it', just pointing out it really is very poorly designed, so much so that the most valuable thing on the rig seems to be the 'Dell' moniker and not the system itself.

Gamer's Nexus is definitely a computer geek-fest, but that video is about Gamer's Nexus approaching pre-builts for the sole purpose of recommending it to those who know little or nothing else about building their own rig. Their recommendation, which is spot on given the issues with this rig, is to avoid at all costs, especially those who are not computer savvy. There are better systems for the money out there even than this 'deal'.

The bloatware, the quality of components - this system runs out of the box 15 to 30% slower than it's counterparts and has significant design flaws that will definitely shorten it's usefulness and life and the users won't/can't fix because they aren't computer builders.. I'd avoid it and drop 200 dollars on a better built option with better specs which Gamer's Nexus has identified. Again though, those GN videos are for the tech crowd in recommending the pre-builts for family members and such so I think their dialogue on it is VERY relevant. I would suggest avoiding this system.
this thread (and the previous one) is already full of details on remedying the issues addressed by steve. replacing the cooler and reinstalling windows (both doable for an average person) will take care of the vast majority of the problems.

this desktop at this price isn't terrible, but throw in the $120 amex deal, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better bang for buck for a budget gamer. this is SD, where people would rather spend an extra $30 to fix the known issues (which are not difficult to fix) than to spend an extra $200 to not have to deal with it (especially if they're under a certain budget).

i'm willing to stand by what i said - i recently bought the xps 8940, another prebuilt from dell with similar specs/issues (was even a better value at $630). with a bit of tinkering, i'm using all of the parts for various pcs for family members (including myself) with no issues.

Its worth it. Very easy to install also. No extra parts are needed. Do not remove the motherboard to install the bracket. The motherboard already has it behind it so the bracket that comes with the vetroo isnt needed.

I can't really argue that, it's good reasoning and has worked well for you. You did your research and found it still holds value - while I am sure that holds for other SDers, I still wouldn't bill this as a slam dunk deal.

I just scratch my head when people dismiss the GN video as rubbish - everything they say is true - granted, not totally relevant to the average SDer, but definitely relevant for those who are in the business and in the know making recommendations to those not in the know. I just don't know why some people are advocating to actively dismiss the experts when there are no other counter points from reputable reviewers - if you can get around the issues with the build, great, but must most people won't even know there are issues, won't install a new OS, don't know how / want to swap out CPU coolers, etc. which is needed with this pre-built.

I have an old SATA hard drive in my old Windows 7 PC. Will there be any problem installing them into this new computer? Thanks.
