they work fine...but it depends on your use case.

would I use this for something important (like my media server)? nope.

would I use this for plugging my laptop docking station and 2 monitors into? yup.
I wouldn't recommend this for a PC. A lot of modern computers will be much happier with pure sine power, which this doesn't give when it's on battery. It'd likely technically work on a modern, decent PSU, but it could cause issues.

That said, I just recently picked up a 1500va pure sine wave UPS and it's been nice already. I don't have to worry nearly as much about power fluctuations, and if I'm working on something important or if I'm playing a game, I've got like 30 minutes to finish everything up and shut down before I lose power entirely.

It's got an added bonus of keeping my hard drives safe - I've got two externals plugged into it so that they're not subjected to the on/off power cycle when something is going nuts with the grid. Not saying they wouldn't survive something like that, but it's worth the peace of mind.

I've also got all of my networking equipment plugged into the UPS - it'll keep my wifi and modem up for two hours if the power goes out - often, you've still got internet when the power is out, so it's helpful to have that connection. I was able to experience that with a recent wave of severe weather/tornado warnings. My power was out, but I was on WiFi just fine.

Long story short - it's not absolutely necessary, but it's really nice to have. If you bought this, I wouldn't use it on a PC, but a router/modem setup might work well with it.
Why all the hate on this thing? I've had this model for a few years now with a Synology Diskstation, cable modem, VOIP modem and router plugged it into it. I live somewhat in the country where power goes out every now and then I've never had an issue.

Well, the unit had an issue at one point and the system notified me by beeping. APC (well their parent company, can't recall the name now) replaced it without an issue.

Everyone is saying these are super bad to be used for PCs but no alternates provided. Can someone suggest a UPS which is better than this for PC? When I check Amazon these are the most highly reviewed in their category

Any recommendation on a UPS like yours for PC/monitor or console/TV?

Yeah, I am seeing $64.99. And they are $60.36 on Amazon.
That's the 600VA model, not the 900VA.

a lot of that talk is just noise. there are so many variables to consider (wattage, power quality, temperature, airflow, etc., etc.) that over time everyone is going to have a slightly different experience - just as they do with normal batteries. this unit falls in line with your basic desktop-grade APC or CyberPower UPS. some more expensive models add pc communication and lcd readouts, but to get drastically different operational quality you're looking at a significant price jump into the Smart-UPS family. Some people need that - most do not.

I have a very low power PC (25W TDP) repurposed as NAS with couple of hard drives. Would you say this UPS is good enough for those once in a blue moon power outages?

if they are mechanical hard drives you probably want a UPS with software shutdown (usb connection to pc). you don't want those losing power all-of-a-sudden, whether it is the outage or the battery running out. solid-state drives that's not such a big deal anymore.

newb question, how important is it to plug a PC into something like this?

i usually just plug my stuff into a surge protector
Very useful during summer brownouts or momentary losses of power.

THIS. I have 9 computers on 5 different types of UPS with three of this exact model and had a storm over the weekend. TINY brownout dimmed the lights for a half second.

6 computers, all running PERFECTLY with no hiccups. The three on these units were all jacked up. Different circuits, different parts of the house, different types of PCs. I had about 20 Chia plots (waste of damn time) running and lost maybe 10 hours of work to this crap.

Past the return period or I'd swap for a better one at twice the price. Wouldn't trust this to prevent a surge if it can't maintain power for a full second.
Sounds like batteries are bad. Did they ever work? It has a 3 year warranty and 1 year on the battery. I can't speak for APC consumer side but on the enterprise side they are very good with warranty and replacements

EDIT: I see many others already stated the same thing to contact APC...

dont expect to run a computer, at least a decent computer, on these low end ups. get a real ups, like the 1500. also, you should test your ups at least seasonal as the batteries only last 5-6 years and that depends on how many blackouts you have.

Nice deal. I actually just bought the 600VA model like a week ago to throw my PS5 and Xbox Series X on because my 1500VA Pure-Sine Wave UPS from Cyberpower was overloading with my PC and the gaming systems attached to it. I'll be returning the 600VA one ASAP.

$60.36 on Amazon for APC UPS, 600VA and this one is 900VA. The battery has 1.5x more capacity, and there are more outlets.

This UPS is not meant for running a data center. This is OK for PC just to bridge the gap between a short power outage or a brown out. It give you about 2 to 4 minutes to safely shutdown a PC during a long outage. I use these as surge protectors on expensive equipment like TV's sound systems etc.

Yeah what do you guys think about using this in the garage for emergency use? What would be hooked up to it would be garage door power, security lights and camera. The power doesn't go out that often here, but it does go out 1-3 times / yr. I just don't want to be caught needed the garage opened once and flat.

Not really interested in having overkill here either. I'm just shopping for a power surge protector with 6-9 outlets and I saw this. Also the garage door is pretty light weight really.

You can't open your garage door manually? I doubt this could power an opener. Lights and camera, sure.
