Ordered with the $35 warranty. Thanks, OP.

A month and a half ago I got a Segway Ninebot ES3 Plus from Costco for $620 after tax (same as ES4). This was after an EF-4 tornado carried off my car, crushed it under a tree, and left me injured and unable afford another car... prompting the scooter purchase. Even so, it's primarily for to get my brother's Chevy Volt to/from public chargers since he was displaced by the same tornado, can't charge at the temporary home, and now has to carry me and our mother all over. It doesn't help that his Gen1 Volt takes Premium gas once you push it beyond the electric range and gas prices had doubled from the pipeline hack.

Though enabling access to public chargers for his Volt was the primary purpose, the scooters range also lets us go separate ways in a pinch. Unfortunately it broke down only the second time I ever commuted home on it: Error 42/48. I fixed it (bad connection to the external battery) but I know these cannot be reliable transportation since it was under 1 month old and only 155 miles. There was already extreme tire wear on the front tire too (tread completely gone).

Consider two + warranty if reliability is a concern.

Edit: Can anyone explain why my post with a personal anecdote about reliability of even bigger name brands is getting thumbed down? Just wanted people to know that they should get the warranty and that people concerned with reliability should consider getting two.
Probably because you are only talking about your experience with a completely different scooter than the deal shown. Now if your post was regarding a deal with your segway ninebot, it probably would get thumbed up.

You don't see the relevance to the discussion about reliability expectations compared to bigger brands? Also, someone already said it was equivalent to the Segway Ninebot ES4 and others said the Hover-1 Blackhawks break down after a few months.

Well, I did the research and an ES3 Plus is a rebadged Costco-exclusive ES4 so 3 months out of a Hover-1 Blackhawk is 3x what I got out of my Segway before it left me stranded and it needed service. That should give some much needed perspective to anyone expecting more than that out of a lesser-known brand (Hover) before these need service. Though anecdotal, it's a strong case for getting a backup and a warranty if you will be relying on it like we do. Note: The Amazon reviews others reference are anecdotal too.

I get what you are saying, but people may not see it that way. They may only care about experience/reliability with this particular scooter. I'm didn't thumb you down. Just replying to why I think you are being thumbed down.

Just tried to price match bestbuy but they said it's not the same model...
They said the same thing to me. I pointed out that the model # is same with Walmart having an extra BLK in the model # which I assume means black color. Then the agent said the specs are different. I did not want to fight it as I already bought one at Walmart.

You think this is able to push up a moderate steep street for someone of average weight?

They told me the same thing and I said blk just means black and I got the price match.

Yeah it's just slower, mine climbs steeper hills here at about 8-9mph. Flat road goes 19mph and down the hill 21mph

The one on Amazon says 350w but they also say 18mph (30kph), so this has decidedly lower specs (15MPH/25kph). One thing is for sure: "500w" is definitely not the nominal motor wattage. I think Walmart is only listing the motor's peak/surge wattage as the scooter's control board will algorithmically allow in a manner that should not burn it up. Here is how peak wattage compares to nominal wattage on Segway's mainline models:
ES1 250w nominal, 500w peak, 20KPH
ES3 250w nominal, 600w peak, 25KPH
ES2 300w nominal, 700w peak, 25KPH
ES4 300w nominal, 800w peak, 30KPH

If the Hover-1 Blackhawk from Walmart is comparable to the Segway ES series as others here have suggested, it seems we have a 250w (nominal) motor. In my experience, even 300w can have trouble with moderate hills. Was hoping for 350w like they say on Amazon but this is a backup for me anyway. Smilie

How do you add the warranty after the fact? I'm kicking myself for not getting the 3 year.

7/1 delivery date if it even ships. Not mad if it doesn't since I do already have the JETSON Bike which I enjoy more then I thought.
