Everyone calm your horses. If you want to play regular chess, just play on the non marked side and don't use the cards. If you're teaching a young kid, then use the marked side and cards. What's the problem.
Never watch a pro basketball game please. They literally draw the plays on a dry erase board. For adults. Professionals.

Or maybe you're just wrong here and it's actually helpful to have when you first start playing.
Have you ever tried explaining something to a 6 year old for five minutes? Let alone 20? This game seems like an excellent entry tool into chess for younger kids.

I like all the reviews stating that their young child learned how to play and doesn't need the cards any more. It's almost like 20 minutes of explaining the rules would have sufficed.
I have this and get what your saying. However, it's much easier to teach the kids chess with the card illustrations on how each piece moves. Also, this is good for younger kids who aren't ready to play standard chess. This doesn't help teach strategy but we just don't use the cards when they are ready to graduate to regular chess.

thanks for the tip, I'll continue not watching that trash. all I'm saying is, it takes almost no time to explain what the pieces are and how they move. strategy is something else entirely, that this set doesn't address. your money would be better spent on better pieces and a board.
This includes pieces and a board... Wouldn't be very effective at teaching chess without them.

It doesn't involve any thinking at all laugh out loud. It dictates your move by the card you pick. My kids enjoy it, but personally, I play regular chess to relieve stress. "No Stress Chess" may not be the best name for it, that's what they call it, so that's how I posted it.

I wish this was on sale when I bought ours a few months back. It definitely helped a lot when teaching my 4-year old to play chess. Even now that he knows all the moves of the pieces, we still sometimes play the cards because it introduces a "new way" to play the game. It can actually be fun!

better. better pieces. I said better.

Because as we all know, it makes a really big improvement on a child's ability to learn chess if the pieces are hand carved from ivory and the board is fashioned out of priceless lightning kissed onyx obsidian glass.
