I use them for freshwater Walleye, Perch, and Crappy fishing out of a boat and peer fishing with a crankbait. While the reel isn't the best, it is far from garbage. Its biggest drawback is the lack of a reversing mechanism.
I paid $20 after tax for my 7' MH GX2 during last summer.
It's a freshwater rod but I use mine in saltwater for inshore and kayak fishing and it does just fine.
The reel isn't sealed for salt water, but most "salt water" reels aren't really sealed well either. You rinse it off when you are done, and don't dunk it in salt water, and it will fish salt water fine.
