I knew nothing about the history of this development, but it's quite remarkable. I just read up on wikipedia - it's a very interesting read if you haven't been paying attention to the gaming industry for the last 10+ years. I might buckle up and buy it, despite the endless backlog.

If you've never played HL1 or want to replay it, this is the version to play. The game is an excellent remaster (despite being an indie team) and they greatly improved on the later Zen parts of the game which is generally considered the weakest part of the original. But most of the game stays true to the original.


Yeah years ago. It started off as a fan recreation but later turned into a retail game with Valve's approval.

This game is praised for all the right reasons! For anyone wanting to get into the half life franchise, but somewhat reluctant to pull out the original source this is a great way to do so! It builds upon everything that made the original great, while making some of the older elements seam into modern pacing; ie the level design for Valve Games has always been insane, this albeit made by fans and published by permission by Valve is top tier! Paid almost full price for this awhile ago, anticipating for a sale, this is the lowest I have seen it ever!

They did a great job with this remake. Keep a keen eye out for the easter eggs spread throughout. The multiplayer isn't the most optimized, but it's still fun as hell to play with buddies and has a small active community; albeit mostly Europeans.

I had been waiting for this game to release for just about 10 years and steamrolled through it at the beginning of the pandemic in about 2 weeks....this game is incredible objectively speaking but even better considering the limited resources the dev had to make the game. Easily worth $50 or $60 in my opinion, at this pricepoint it's an incredible value.

people still have friends??? where do we find some of these "friends" you speak of? Esp ones that would play half life!

Perhaps a noob question, but what's the max frames per second (FPS) / refresh rate (Hz) this game can get. I am new to PC gaming and am looking for affordable games to put my 1080Ti and Dell 165Hz monitor to test.

Are there any other games one can suggest?
