This is wrong. Graco Children's Products is a brand of Newell Rubbermaid. It has NO relation or affiliation with Graco Inc., a manufacturer of fluid handling equipment including paint sprayers.
Graco Inc. started off with grease equipment in the 1920's before expanding to paint sprayers in the 1950's. They've never made or sold children's products.
Using these types of devices require a lot of time and effort masking and covering everything within 6 feet of the area you are painting. The amount of time spend doing all of this would have been better spent on a cheap roller with a rod. There is almost no exception to this rule as far as I see. I've painted a lot of rooms and these things just make more work. That isn't even taking into account the cost and overall quality of the product.
On top of all of that, you have to wear a mask and goggles which cost way more in 2021 than they did 5 years ago. By the time you're done, you could have just paid someone to do the work and probably saved money.
Completely disagree. I use mine all the time when spraying trim.

On top of all of that, you have to wear a sealed gas/fume rated mask and goggles which cost way more in 2021 than they did 5 years ago. You'll be out close to $300 before you even buy paint.
So $140 spray painter and hours spent masking everything or $0.75 roller $10 roller extender and $2 roller pale with a tarp down.
For a regular room your analysis makes perfect sense. For a deck with railings though...

I used this to paint kitchen cabinet doors and rolled the frames. The doors looked so good like they came that way. I do not recommend using this indoors as it makes a mess with a bunch of overspray. The only issue I would mention is the amount of prep and cleanup required. You spend 90% of the time doing that and 10% painting because it's so quick.

I agree with you, I used the cheap midrange from harbor freight for like 65 bucks on sale to paint my fence and no way in hell it would be faster or more efficient to do it manually

Let's also not gloss over the fact that there are about 500 different models of electric spray painters that go for 1/3rd this cost.
The price was inflated to begin with. Graco was a company that started off making baby products. They were sued into the ground when their car seats resulted in deaths. Guess a paint sprayer was a safer bet. Everything they make is manufactured in China just like every other sprayer on Amazon. Same cheap crap in new plastic casing.
I see pro painters everywhere using Graco sprayers so I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Same quality job in the end.

I paid $99 for the DSP model at home Depot in Jan this year. I used it to paint a 9 piece set cast iron patio set with a lot of intricate patterns. This was the right tool for the job. The priming and 2 coats of paint took 2 hrs total not including prep and cleanup. The first time cleaning the gun took me an hour. It was easier the second time and it only took me 20 mins. I used oil based paint so cleanup required mineral spirit. I had to used a whole quart for the job.

So much wrong with your post (and some right) - I'll just summarize by saying that I use different painters (including rollers, etc.) for different types of jobs. These are great for certain jobs, not so much for others. The problem is, you don't seem to know the difference. Second, they sprayers you are comparing this to are hvlp sprayers, which are quite different than this one.

Trim and doors need to be sprayed to look right. Sure you can brush or roll them but at a certain point if you want things to look better you need to spend more money on tools or hire a pro. It's just how it is
