That review seems to be for the 4000W model, not the 8750w here. (go to 3 star reviews and it'll show you which model the review is for)

But this other review seems to imply that it's alright for home use with a transfer switch / interlock:

"I had an electrician put in an Eaton Double throw Transfer Switch that switches either Utility power (from Meter) or Generator power to my breaker box. The transfer switch is connected via 6 AWG to an SS2-50P generator inlet box. The generator cable I purchased had a 14-50 Plug at one end and a CS6364 connector at the other end to plug into the SS2-50P box. The 14-50 cable plug goes into an adapter that takes it to 14-30 which connects to the generator outlet. With Neutral bonded to ground in the Transfer switch, the Generator was set to Floating Neutral per video instructions from CPE. Instead of the Eaton switch you can always go with a generator interlock kit for your breaker box with a 2 pole 50 amp breaker for the 6 AWG coming from the SS2-50P wall outlet box"
There's a reason why that's a big code violation. Some people who don't believe they're idiots really are. If you do that without installing the required interlock kit and something goes wrong, good luck getting your insurance company to pay.
The picture does indicate a 4 prong outlet.

I have had this in my cart since yesterday contemplating a purchase. I was debating between this one and the Wen GN8751 that sells for $810.93 on their site, though it is currently out of stock. Any recommendations for one over the other.
We don't really get many power outages where I am, but it has happened and once for 4 days, but that was 15 years ago. I would like to think I would do the conversion to NG or propane and hook up to my panel, but the later may be beyond my know how.

This has been on my watch list for a while. I wonder if one of those 40 buck eBay carbs will work to convert this to be able to take natural gas.

From Amazon reviews:

"This unit is not for the home. The 30 amp port on the unit is incorrect for a transfer switch. Port must be a VAC 240. it has a standard 30 amp 3 prong port. It will not work with a standard VAC 240 connector. It should be noted in the description. The video shows use in a home, but leaves out the 240VAC information. Nice unit but cannot be used with a transfer switch correctly. Champion is of no help. Too many calls and no answer. Only amazon helped me with this issue."

Thanks. I've been watching this for months and almost bought a warehouse model for $970. Would have bought the Costco Firman this week but my local store was OOS, and I wanted the inverter anyway. Just got this and will order the tri-fuel kit. I think it voids warranty, but it's worth the option of having unlimited fuel during a storm.

This won't be able to power a 3.5 central AC unit right? Max amp of the outlet is only 30 while my AC has a max amp requirement of in the 40s.

You might be able to with a Hard Start or Soft Start Kit attached to your HVAC. Google the kits for details.

Not returnable per Amazon, as an FYI. Edit: Never mind, that message is now gone.

i am the op. I was also in the same shoe. I have been watching and waiting for Firman to be on sale and as it got closer to June 23 (The day it went on sale), i started researching and realize the THD that people complained about. Yes half of the internet says you get what you pay for and use a UPS..etc... but i dont want to. And since this is new technology - and i want to use it for many years - i rather get the inverter and i dont need to worry about UPS or dirty electricity...etc.. My house is old, i dont know if AC or any other device may not work - for a few hundred dollars that i can spare, i rather just go with Inverter.

The problem for me with this champion one (Even tho i bought it and posted this) is the fuel gallon size is small. I dont want to wake up at night and fill fuel ..etc.. so i will definitely convert to a natural gas (although don't have a natural gas pipe out to backyard yet)

The other one i was looking at is the harbor freight 8750 inverter which has a large gas tank size.

From the listing:Covered Outlets
"The covered outlets in this inverter include a 120/240V 30A locking outlet (L14-30R),"

"L14-30R 240V specification is listed in several places in the listing.

L14-30R is the standard four prong twist lock outlet for a transfer switch. The listing however does not show any amp rating for 240 volt output.

If only 120V is available then it does not make sense to equip it with L14-30R.

If buyers only receive a three prong outlet then the unit is not as described.

Amazon lumps all of the reviews for the various wattage models together. J. Mccormick's review mentions the outlets but his is for the 4000 watt model.
