Guacamelee has some of the best 2D combat I've ever played (maybe the best?), wrapped up in a good Metroidvania. Can't recommend it enough. The sequel plays it real safe, with more of the same, but that's not a bad thing by any means. Do get the complete edition of the second one; the DLC is lots of fun and challenge.

I've put in hours on Guacamelee Gold (Linux version). I can't recommend it enough, playing the game becomes more like using the controller as a musical instrument trying to get the timing right as time goes on.

Both Guacs are great although personally I enjoyed 1 more than 2 (also note that 2 starts immediately after the events of 1 so going in without playing the first would be tough). I preferred the original, but both are definitely worth it, especially at this price The developer's (Drinkbox Studios) other game, Severed, is also on sale for $3.74 and worth it for the price.

Thanks for the info. I see they're different but I got Severed based on the recommendation and the fact that I loved guacamelee so much

You're welcome. Sorry about the jumbled text; the proxy I was behind sometimes does that. I originally played Severed on the Vita and enjoyed it. I haven't tried their other game, Tales from Space, which was their first one originally on the PS3 but might give it a go for a couple bucks (it's also on sale).
