These things are very unlikely to happen again. WF got hit with tons of fees and penalties and invested hefty in their risk compliance departments This whole thing sent a shockwave across the industry that also benefited banks' employees. Tellers don't need to aggressively cross sell bank product anymore.
Good all-rounder for those looking for a generalist card and better than Apple Card for merchants who don't take Apple Pay (there are a sizable bunch). Points are awarded monthly and with a $25 minimum for statement credit or check back (Direct Deposit isn't possible unless you have a bank account with them). Wells Fargo's latest pay with points option (I think inspired by Chase Pay Yourself Back) can get around this threshold - redemption is 1 cent to 1 point and points balance must cover the entire amount (no partial offsets). Cell Phone Protection is a good plus, few cards offer a higher rewards rate on top of this perk.
Another thing - Wells Fargo act funny if you pay too many times a month online (I think over 3 payments blocks you from making online payments for the rest of the statement period), but you can always pay over the automated phone system if you exceed this limit.
FNBO also has a 2% cash back Visa with a pre-qualification link. Might be helpful for those who don't have perfect credit and are unsure if they'll get approved. It even tells you the credit limit they'll pre-qualify you for. I got approved yesterday; it'll be my highest limit card so far.
Got it and I seriously don't love it:
- Can't pay more than twice per month
- Rewards only after 25dlls accumulated
- Waiting a year to cancel it (make sure my bonus stays)
I have both the Citi Double Cash and this Well Fargo Active Cash.
I still redeem at 1 to 1 for both.
I do a statement credit for the Active Cash and an ACH transfer to my checking account for the Double Cash.
The important difference with the Wells Fargo Active Cash is that you can only redeem in $25 increments. So, if your have 2550 points, you can only redeem 2500 points for $25 statement credit. You have to leave the 50 points. It is $20 increments if you have a Wells Fargo banking account. After getting the sign-on bonus, I stopped using the Active Cash card because of this restriction. The USBank Altitude Go has the same $25 redemption increments.
Out of curiosity from what I see is that you can use Rewards for Purchases, which lets you distribute the cash back to purchases/previous purchases as statement credit which from what I can do is let you use the full amount without the worry of the $25 increments.

I didn't know about this when I was redeeming my rewards.
I also haven't looked into how this works exactly.
If I make a $27 purchase but I have $25.50 in rewards, can I use the $25.50 and then pay $1.50? Or does the reward have to fully cover the entire purchase?

No it has to cover the full amount. That's the only drawback. But if you have several purchases that equal the rewards then it would work. But from using it usually hard to not leave a couple of cents but might be better than $25 increments.
if amount comes over the $25.50 then it won't cover the purchase. So, as long as the purchase of purchases is the same as reward or below it would cover it.
It does not have to be used on a single purchase but several as well as long as it totals the rewards or stays below the rewards amount.

Thanks.
That seems like still a bit of a hassle.
I need to have a purchase that is roughly equivalent but slightly less than $X rewards.
Thanks.

Yes it is a hassle as you have to select several purchases to total the rewards that you have then just applying the full amount with just a click then having to select several purchases to total the amount or having a single purchase.
But just in case someone else might take advantage of this would work. And yes having a $25 increments or having to do the extra work to see if all purchases you made totals or at least gets close to the total when redeeming your rewards for purchases.

Thank you for clarifying.
The Fidelity 2% Cash Rewards also has a $25 limit - which is not great, but once it is over $25, it is swept over to my "cash" account at Fidelity.
Citi's Double Cash used to have a $25 limit but doesn't anymore. It is the best of the 2% credit cards.

The WF card with its exactly $25 redeem sounds like a hassel. And having to offset against purchases around $25 or multiples of it is even more of a hassel.
I also have the Citi double cash. They switched to that point system but I didn't see any real change in how I earn or redeem 2%.

I did not know that the Wells Fargo Active Cash had the exact $25 redemption requirement when I applied for it.
Unless they give me a really good incentive, I won't be using it again.
I have $0.30 cashback sitting in the account.
The Citi Double Cash still is the same for me after the conversion to Thank You Points.
My 1st Financial Bank USA Platinum Visa has offered me 2% cash back on purchases for YEARS now. No categories. No limits. No silly point system. They automatically credit my monthly statement for me. It's all automatic and requires no thought or effort. It's been the best card in my wallet for a very long time.
I don't about you guys but I recently applied a SoFi credit card and it is getting me 3% back for everything for the whole year. I think it cap at 12k spending total but still better than anything else. I also apply during a promotion period where you get 300 back after spending 3k within 3 months.
