If you have Paypal Key you can get this to work as a Mastercard Debit funded by the Discover. Opens up lots of opportunities.

Log in to your PayPal account and create the PayPal key. Set the Discover card as the payment method for it. You will have a new "virtual" card number, expiration date, and security code that you enter in just like any other credit/debit.
As previously mentioned, this awesome with PayPal Key linked to your Discover card. You can treat it like a debit card to avoid a lot of fees, and use at places that don't normally accept PayPal (like Amazon), allowing you to get the 5% bonus on the Discover

Please correct me if I'm wrong but for eBay purchases I believe this discover benefit is useless to me even though I have discover because I get the same discount by buying eBay gift cards 5% off at target.com with my Target Redcard? EBay is the only place I ever use PayPal and I'm struggling to understand other uses of PayPal people are suggesting here. I use Samsung pay, but I read here that won't work with this PayPal link thing

It requires some sort of capped fee promo, and requires a large group of people, If I buy from you and you buy from me, we will both get flagged. It's actually more profitable with eBay payment system if we can have a capped fee promo. Right now you keep the paypal fee in exchange for much higher final value fee eBay is now charging. But if fee can be capped then we will have a more profitable scheme making 3% more than before. The reason Sep 27 2019 was the deal of the century was because Raku10 had bonus cash back, for few times including 9/27/19 the $100 off and eBay Bucks promo had one day overlap. But occasionally we had a couple of bonus Raku10 cash back on eBay while eBay Bucks promo was running.

Having eBay payment blows. I used to pay my doctor and contractors and other bills using the eBay scheme by adding paypal email address of the payee in the bogus item I list on eBay. Now I can no longer do that to earn extra from paying them using paypal. I doubt eBay will ever run another $100 off (for 15% or 20% off) promo.
Oh....You're the reason we lost ebay bucks, and all the good deals. Thanks. Really appreciate that!

Hottest cashback right now is the Chase Freedom Flex with first year 5% grocery stacking with quarterly grocery 5% giving you a 10% kickback. Enjoy.

Please get a second opinion. Dan's Deals said it does and he is usually right.

If you convert your Disco cashback to a gift card, you can do better than 1-1, just depends on the merchant what the bonus is. Example: $90 Discover cashback for Starbucks gift card gets you a $100 GC. 11.1% bonus.

Didn't realize they had eBay GCs at Target.

So you gave your Details? Necessary to get the PayPal key? This is what they say: "Federal law requires us to collect your date of birth and the last 4 digits of your SSN to confirm your identity. We won't use it for any other purpose."
… Does anyone know of a way I can use this to get groceries delivered from Amazon? If I get PayPal key, I just use it like a virtual card anywhere?

No, I decided against it. I don't want PP to have that info on me, for no good reason. They don't explain very well why they want it, so...no. Just no.

US Bank has fast food and restaurant as separate categories. US Bank is the only one with 5% on fast food as one of the selectable category. Discover has both lumped into the same category. I probably spend couple hundreds on fast food and restaurants a month. Most of my Discover spending this quarter will still be paypal.
if u r spending that much already u should just get the SYW Mastercard... currently it's:
10% back in statement credits on eligible purchases at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants which total $1,000 or more each month (up to a maximum total of $150 in statement credit(s) each month for this offer) between 7/1/2021 and 9/30/2021.

the previous quarter was: 10% back in statement credits on eligible purchases at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants which total $1,500 or more each month (up to a maximum total of a $250 statement credit each month) between 4/1/2021 and 6/30/2021.

1st quarter of the year was the best: 15% back in statement credits on eligible purchases at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants which total $300 or more each month (up to a maximum total of a $100 statement credit each month) between 1/1/2021 and 3/31/2021.

this stacks on top of the overall promos like: $75 back in a statement credit when you make eligible purchases totaling $2,000 or more from 6/20/2021 through 7/19/2021...

some other promos on the card are 10% back in statement credits on eligible warehouse clubs and drug store purchases which total $300 or more each month (up to a maximum total of a $55 statement credit each month) between 05/01/21 through 07/31/21.
15% back in a statement credit(s) on eligible entertainment and travel purchases which total $500 or more (up to a maximum total of $100 in statement credit(s) for this offer) between 06/01/21 through 08/31/21

this is on top of the SYW points u earn which now can be redeemed on 3rd party giftcards

Gap/Old Navy gift cards if you shop there are a way better deal, $100 gift card for $75.

Gap/ON/BR always has high bonus, but all depends on if you buy clothes from the Gap family or perhaps a gift to someone. Pays to peruse the Rewards gift cards to see what is available.

Yes and no.

with Paypal key, you can basically route anything that takes a CC through PP and get the 5%. so, I wouldn't use it somewhere you can get 5% any day of the week, but somewhere else you wouldn't get any kind of special discount.

I'm actually reconsidering paying taxes with this through Key - our (annual) auto taxes are due this month ($1200 or so), and even though they charge 2.5% for CC payments, using this deal should get 5%, so I'll net 2.5% plus delay actually paying for the taxes by a couple months. I'd usually write a check [e.g. rather than paying the taxes via check OOP end of July, if I use Discover through PP to get the 5% after the statement closes on the 27th, I won't actually wind up paying that bill until mid-September]

This ad made me realize I had forgotten to activate the cashback for God knows how long, all the while thinking I was getting 5%. Not the first time I've made this mistake. Makes me think chasing these months isn't worth it and I'd be better with my regular cashback card.

Are there any food places that are excluded under the terms "full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias and fast food location" or is it pretty much everywhere that sells ready-to-eat food?

That is, besides actual restaurants, fast food places like Baskin Robbins, Subway, Wendy's all count for this Discover promotion?

General answer = yes, all should be included. It is how the store is coded with Discover. I once had a Mexican restaurant coded as a market. Was not worth the time/energy to call for < $1.
