If you have Paypal Key you can get this to work as a Mastercard Debit funded by the Discover. Opens up lots of opportunities.

Log in to your PayPal account and create the PayPal key. Set the Discover card as the payment method for it. You will have a new "virtual" card number, expiration date, and security code that you enter in just like any other credit/debit.
As previously mentioned, this awesome with PayPal Key linked to your Discover card. You can treat it like a debit card to avoid a lot of fees, and use at places that don't normally accept PayPal (like Amazon), allowing you to get the 5% bonus on the Discover

Why do you pay your tax so early?

So he doesn't get nailed with an underpayment penalty. Usually applies to people that own their own businesses or those that are uncertain as to how much they will earn during the year (that don't have taxes taken out up front). The underpayment penalty is 10% of the liability, and they are pretty stingy on it (I believe the threshold is, or used to be, 90% meaning that you had to at least remit 90% of your tax liability during the year.

He also could have large capital gains that wouldn't be taxed until tax filing time. Again, it's his responsibility to make the payment during the tax year that it was earned in, so they won't accept ignorance as a defense. Lots a different scenarios to cause this.

I think you can only link a bank account to your PayPal debit card.

Linking Discover card to PayPal for on-line purchase(s) where PayPal is accepted, everyone can. Linking Discover card to PayPal debit card, no can do.

Thanks for that! I use Plastiq to make my mortgage payment. I use a 2% cashback card, so it costs me a few bucks over their fee. Just added the PayPal Key MC as a payment card and used it to schedule my Aug. payment,

Right, you can only link a bank account to PayPay debit card, and you'd only get 1% cashback. Link Discover to PayPal Key and you get 5% cashback thru Sept. 30.

So if I transfer money to someone through xoom using paypal key, do I have to pay cash advance fee from discover? Or it will be considered as debit card purchase?

What do you mean by taxes? State/local/federal? They're all going to be different, your locality will use a different processor.

Also note they will charge a premium for using CC - it won't be 5%, probably more like 2-3% (checking it, my town is 2.5%), but in that case you're only pocketing 2-3% on $1500 or let's say $30-$45. Is it really worth prepaying taxes to save $30?
I have escrow...so that makes it more complicated. I don't wanna double pay, and go thru the hassle of contacting my mortgage servicer (Carrington Mortgage - this guys are difficult to deal with. BofA passed my mortgage to them) LMAO

I agree... by now schools should be using LCD monitors instead of CRTs. Can't believe there are still CRTs in schools.

Yes and no.

with Paypal key, you can basically route anything that takes a CC through PP and get the 5%. so, I wouldn't use it somewhere you can get 5% any day of the week, but somewhere else you wouldn't get any kind of special discount.

I'm actually reconsidering paying taxes with this through Key - our (annual) auto taxes are due this month ($1200 or so), and even though they charge 2.5% for CC payments, using this deal should get 5%, so I'll net 2.5% plus delay actually paying for the taxes by a couple months. I'd usually write a check [e.g. rather than paying the taxes via check OOP end of July, if I use Discover through PP to get the 5% after the statement closes on the 27th, I won't actually wind up paying that bill until mid-September]
I thought Paypal is blocking tax payments with Paypal key since late last year. Just tried property tax payment earlier today and that was blocked. Disco approved the authorization but paypal reversed the authorization immediately.

Seems to be federal taxes [frequentmiler.com]. I was speaking of property taxes. Not sure if it's vendor-specific.
