It really doesn't. Most of the rule books are just pages explaining every single action/card type in the game. It is an easy to learn game. Lay a card in the correct left most unfilled square in a row by paying the egg cost along the top of the board + food cost on the card or take one of three actions (left most uncovered square in a row followed by what it says on each bird card in the row moving from right to left). Next players turn.
Huge board game player, own 200+. This is one of our favorites. Strategic enough that it's fun, but the theme and game play have an appeal to other friends and family that would not play many other more heavier board games.
Not that this one is that heavy.
The digital version is on sale on steam, and the physical version also includes a stackable coupon code. The app includes a fantastic tutorial if you want to skip the rulebook. The rules may seem complicated to nongamers but it is actually quite simple. Easy enough to handle if you played some modern board games like Ticket To Ride, Carcassonne, King of Tokyo, or others found at popular retailers. It can also be used to introduce new people to the hobby but I would recommend at least one person be familiar with the game.

The theme doesn't make sense with the actual mechanics of the game.
Very little (if any) interaction between players.
That said, if you like the theme and don't mind playing a very solitary game alongside other players, its not a badly designed game.
The cards have nice art, and the little food pieces and eggs are cute.

Can you tell me some of your other favorites maybe? I am getting into board games and daunted on what to get. Also if you could mix in some good cheap games that would be great too <3

200+ board games is 'huge'? I have over 900 and I have friends with thousands (plural)
Any case if you haven't already joined (it's free) boardgamegeek join.. then go to
the problem is 'good things' is subjective... so a game I call good you may not.
the good starting place is to tell us what games you've played, which you've liked and which you didn't.
and again SD is not going to be best place to be asking... number of board gamers here is so tiny compared to BGG.... and BGG has a 'hot deals' forum which has a lot more deals on board games than will make front page here. not to mention you can research any game you might be interested in ... you'll find written and video reviews for anything popular (or not in lots of cases)

Google top rated games. And skim reviews.
Also, check where you live for board game meetups of any kind, including at board game stores.
What's more important to answer is your expected gaming group size (2 players? 4 players? More?) and how much patience people have (15 minutes? 30 minutes? 2 hours? More?)
My old friends started to Catan, 1-2 hours and best with 3-4 players. At game nights, I like to warm up with a fast 2 minute game called "we didn't playtest this at all" while waiting for players (one group just played this all night once). Among my more casual friends, Sushi Go Party (2-8 player, 15-30min games) is one of my most popular games.
I agree with crinttae. If you can play with others to figure out what you like first, that'll help with the shopping efforts.
A gaming friend highly recommended Wingspan a few years back. I just bought it recently on a deal and haven't played yet.

I haven't met anyone who didn't like Forbidden Desert. Great co-op game with different spin-off versions to mix it up a bit. For party style games, we love Monikers. Honorable mentions: Hivemind, Pandemic, King of Tokyo.

I recommend getting digital versions of games and trying them out before you buy. The average price is about $5 on iOS and Android. For the price of one physical game you can get 8-10 digital games and try them out. If you can avoid one game you dont like, then it pretty much pays for itself, and you have the digital versions to play when nobody else is around.
That said, some great games for people new to the hobby:
Castles of Mad King Ludwig (app available)
Takenoko (app available)
Quacks of Quedlinbug (app in the works)
Pandemic (app available)
If you want something a little heavier:
Brass Birmingham (steam version available, the original "Brass" is available as an app)
Bloodrage (steam version available)
Terraforming Mars (app available)
Gloomhaven (steam version available)
Viticulture (app available)
My wife just spent 65 dollars on this game. It is very beautiful. I have yet to play it. I may never play it. Because it has a lot of instructions. But it's beautiful.
It took me about 30 minutes to figure out the basics. Until I did, I had a similar impression. After that, I was able to teach it to my kid (age 9) without any trouble. All of the symbols make it seem like there is a lot of complexity, but after 2 games you will easily get the hang of it.

Thank you. I bought the board game for my mom for Mothers Day. This will be a good way for me to learn how to play when I go for a visit.

Way overpriced, though. Even with expansion.
