These are completely inappropriate for COVID the purpose of a mask is to protect others. These masks have an unfiltered direct exhaust vent. If you use these for COVID you are putting others at risk and are essentially not wearing anything to protect them.
TLDR: Do not use these for COVID
Furthermore these are designed for particulates and chemicals NOT BIOLOGICALS.
Just to shift away from the tired debate about covid - west coast folks should consider picking these up for fire season. AQI was really bad throughout California last summer and these with some p100 filters are a really good idea if you need to be outside when it's really smoky. Bad AQI from wildfires has been shown to have negative long term health effects so this is a cheap way to protect yourself from that.
3M is the industry standard for reusable respirators and this is a great price. Thumbs up!
If you want to wear them to protect others you can put a simple cloth mask over that vent hole.
These can be used to protect yourself against coronavirus. 3m has entire pages dedicated on how to use these models instead of n95 masks due to supply shortages.
This was $12.31 on the January deal. The next series up with the downward pointing exhale vent and silicon seal are much better but these are very effective IF you manage to obtain real not counterfeit filters.

is this overkill for COVID?
This will protect the wearer from inhaling nearly 100% of all virus yet does not filter your exhausted breath. To be compliant with a mask ordinance the exhaust vent needs to be covered with cloth or cotton. The next series up does project your breath downward which is safer.
Surgical and cloth masks only protect other from your germs by reducing the projection of the wearer's droplets. Only a tight fitting respirator like this can catch nearly all aerosolized virus.

I have been using this since the pandemic - at work, shopping etc. Definitely recommend it.
I bought a 50 pack of filters for $20. Also do not forget the carbon filter too.
Surprise this does not come as a kit as that is what I bought for $15 when I knew back in Dec 2019 that this is going to be a pandemic.
These are not for covid...you're exhaling . You're basically protecting yourself and blowing out your air lol.
These are for dust or vapor depending on your filter or cartridge. This is my favorite mask that I use for all mowing and yardwork and servicing a pool I take care of since there are rodents in the pump room.
I like this mask more than the bulkier more expensive 3m ones bc it's smaller and easier to use with glasses

Been looking for one of these, but the MSRP seems lower than the one at home Depot. How come?
Does this one not come with filters?
3M makes several different mask models, be sure you're comparing apples to apples. As for the filters, you'll need to buy them separately. This is common with some manufacturers, particularly 3M, as they have different filters for different uses.
I'm no expert, would this be ok for doing stuff under a house or in an attic, like messing with insulation? Would it block asbestos if you were in an old house that you didn't know what kind of insulation they had?

Absolutely when paired with the appropriate filter cartridge. If you are working with something as hazardous as asbestos, you should be fit tested to make sure you have the correct sized respirator.

Yes, if you get proper filters for the mask.
This is just the rubber/plastic molded mask, you still have to attach filters. Get 3M filters from an autherized dealer, do not buy knockoff or juck filters. And replace the filters as directed.
EDIT:
Selman said it better than I. and you might want a full body suit so it does nnot contaminate your cloths.

I use this for pesticides 😂
Question: Are the filters needed for these? Would probably get it for painting indoors.
