That's... not how you use these. Google Home should be connected to your Spotify account, to which you can simply ask Google to play music, or open Spotify and play music to a device that way.

If you're using Apple music or Bluetooth, you're going to have a bad time. Besides, you bought into Apple's ecosystem, HomePods were created for you.
Those are the opposite of smart home features. Optical has been a slowly dying standard, not enough bandwidth to keep up with any of the latest Dolby & DTS formats since friggin Bluray released. 3.5, well, the current cellphone market can tell you that story.

If you want a smart home, the last thing you're doing is plugging in devices. Gotta catch up with the times.
This is a good price! My card will be "hurt" in 3,2,1…lol

What is the timer on these for Google to stop support? 3 more years?

If Google would wise up and include 3.5mm or digital optical ports on their devices I would have an all Google smart home.

Google recently announced that they will "issue critical bug fixes and patches for at least five years after launch" for Nest devices. This model was launched in October of 2020.

Ugh, bought one of these for the wife and bluetooth reliability from an iphone 11 has been terrible. it'll either drop the Bluetooth connection while playing a song or just won't connect at all. to fix the issue you have to unplug the speaker for a few seconds then plug it back in. Essentially it's a hard reboot so you can connect to it and play any music....until it drops the connection. Google posted that it was aware of the issue but that was over a year ago and still no fix in sight.
I also have these paired in stereo and while they sound solid, I've had functionality issues as well with pairing. They also "skip" a second between tracks when playing an album on Spotify. Really ruins the vibe of songs that flow well into each other. I contacted google tech and it's a bug they are working through and had me sign up for beta updates but still no fix. Wish I wouldn't have bought em, but if they can fix these issues it'll be a great value

How are these different than a Google Home or Google Home Mini?

The Nest Audio should sound a little better if you don't mind listening to music on these little smart speakers. Other then that, a Nest Mini will be less of an eye sore and get the same job done a whole lot cheaper.
