If the "2.5 gallons of Drano" equivalency is to be believed, then the $14.49 is cheaper per volume.

Thanks OP. I normally get something like this locally, no reason to find out how well they ship something that can leak, but the last 3 times I was in a grocery store I looked in the cleaning supplies, very picked over, and each time completely out of drain opener.

What incentive would a plumber have to tell you that a product that nullifies 90% of their jobs works just as well?

This product is only a bad idea if the drain is completely clogged and there is no movement of water at all. Since the corrosive nature will damage the piping if it's just sitting there without moving. Otherwise even if you have a little bit of drainage it will work well.
