Totally recommend this game. I know SD is about deals. Nintendo is so unpredictable with prices. I have no regrets at $60, but would obviously prefer $30-45 if it was available at that. I hold off for steep discounts on everything, except 1st party Nintendo. Historically, there isn't really another publisher with their portfolio of titles and IP so I can understand seeing a game for $50 and seeing it as a SD instead of like $5-10 a few years later like you can often find with PC.

I hold off for steep discounts on everything, except 1st party Nintendo. Historically, there isn't really another publisher with their portfolio of titles and IP so I can understand seeing a game for $50 and seeing it as a SD instead of like $5-10 a few years later like you can often find with PC.

After playing practically all of the 3D Mario games via Super Mario 3D All Stars and having already played Odyssey prior, this was one of the few 3D Mario experiences missing, but it's actually quite distinct from the rest. It was clear to see the ways the games had built upon one another over the years, but 3D World takes a much different approach with the camera that feels more akin to the 2D Mario games.
The camera is often at a fixed perspective so you don't really ever have to fight with it. You still move around in a 3D plane, but there's usually a front and back for each level (that you can fall off of) making the progression basically left to right.
Like every Mario game, there are plenty of different stage biomes that will determine the hazards and enemies you face - like the classic desert worlds and ice worlds. It is all just as well crafted and imaginative as it ever has been - though I still think Super Mario Galaxy was the most creative.
The multiplayer functionality is great too, but no matter what I did I couldn't ever find people online to play with. It always required sitting and waiting in lobbies and I wasn't patient enough for that.
Bowser's Fury is much more like a typical camera-following design in a single open world. It was also quite fun, but for somewhat different reasons. The world is seamless, so you go between islands and defeat the various obstacles and enemies without any level system. It's Mario, but without the breaks that normally signal points to quit the game. So... it kind of sucks you in. I think that might be the future of Mario games.
Regardless, I paid full price for this game and at launch and loved it. Getting it $15 cheaper is definitely worth it. I imagine most Mario fans already have it, but I think if you haven't played it on Wii U, it's definitely a great and distinct companion if you were a fan of the ever-popular Mario Odyssey.
