It connected instantly for me with the cable it came with, the new pixel 1 I have on the other hand would not connect with any cable but the one it came with and even that likes to disconnect for no reason. I hate having to select file transfer for usb every single time I connect it too, there's no option to have it remember.
Hard to say, windows can create all kinds of problems with connecting usb. Id try both front and rear usb ports too
